Hardwired Fridge FCU replacement with single socket

Our Fridge Freezer has died and was hardwired into an FCU, which is on the circuit of kitchen sockets. I don't want to cut the plug off the new Fridge, so want to replace with a single socket.

I've got a spare double pole socket - is this as simple as replacing the pairs of wires in each terminal into the back of the single socket? Or do I need to get a Pro in?

But will the new fridge go back properly with the plug depth, assuming it's directly behind?

Well they reckon there should be a 50mm air gap at the back, so I'm not sure the hardwire option was technically right anyway!

But very common, do what you've got to do.

In mother's old house, the FCU supplied the socket for the fridge/freezer, and was where the fridge/freezer would not stop access to, and was put there so it could be switched off to defrost it without needing to pull the unit out. The use of a FCU is also so less likely someone will unplug it to use the socket for something else, but all down to physical reasons, of not being a temptation to unplug, there is no electrical reason to use a switched FCU, and there are arguments that a FCU stops the easy moving of the unit for maintenance.
