A full court press to fix the midterm elections. Trump knows that he is already deeply unpopular and the Republicans are toast in a fair election.

He is cooking up an excuse for his lackeys to take over the election process from the individual states and thereby fix the results. He will declare some sort of national emergency. That is why the director of national intelligence is running an investigation into voting in Georgia which, under the law, she is not allowed to be involved with.

This is an article in the NY Times by one of their sensible centre right commentators. In the last few weeks the tone has changed in the US. Pretty much everyone now thinks Trump will fix the mid-terms. Using the lessons he learnt from trying to fix 2020. It is an operation taking place on multiple fronts.

But it is a rather parochial view. If the USA becomes a far right dictatorship, then the effects on the rest of the world will be enormous. And Trump seems especially keen on hurting US former allies.

I'm inclined to agree with you. But I'm hoping we're both wrong, and they're all intelligent free-thinking individuals who are just misrepresented by the nutjobs who appoint themselves as "community leaders".

It's a good test, to find out whether there really is a fundamental issue with them.

The Guardian represents the Labour Party, which now has decided it needs to dump Starmer.
