I imagine he got all excited and felt he had no choice. He had a history of allowing himself to be set up.

Now the Met have apologised Sir Lindsey for sharing the source of the tip off. They obviously did it deliberately in the first place so as to avoid blame.

It seems Sir Lindsey received the information while on a jolly to the Virgin Islands. He needs to say from who.
