Is this 6mm or 10mm cable?

Thanks. So long as it’s not 6mm I can at least think about electric ovens.

Why not 6mm for ovens?
10mm is the supply into a small ‘sub’ CU that controls the kitchen/extension When the kitchen gets done I’m interested in having two double ovens and maybe an induction hob.

It’s currently gas so there’ll need to be a cable out and I read anything over 15kW should be 10mm. Probably only Christmas Day when they all might be on full blast.

Now please use a pair of pliers to squash the strands down into a line (touching) like ooooooo when viewed end-on, and put a ruler next to it then post a pic; let’s put some science at it

For domestic cooking equipment the diversitiy guidelines say

first 10 amps + 30% of the remainder + 5A if there is a socket.

We can work that backwards to work out the maximum cooking load for a given circuit.

With socket: ((i-10-5)/0.3 + 10) * 230
Without socket: ((i-10)/0.3 + 10) * 230

32A -> 15.3kW with socket, 19.1kW without socket
40A -> 21.4kW with socket, 25.3kW without socket
45A -> 25.3kW with socket, 29.1kW without socket
50A -> 29.1kW with socket, 32.6kW without socket.

Cable ratings depend on installation methods

For 32A you will need a minimum of 4mm under method C, a minimum of 6mm under method 100,102, or A and a minimum of 10mm under methods 101 or 103.

For 40A or 45A you will need a minimum of 6mm under method C, a minimum of 10mm under method 100,102, or A and a minimum of 16mm under methods 101 or 103.

For 50A you will need a minimum of 10mm under method C, a minimum of 10mm under method 100,102, or A and no size of T&E will meet the requirements under methods 101 or 103.

Unfortunately, not all brands offer 45A breakers.
