Does this look like a poor chimney repair job to you?

Hi there, we are just embarking on a renovation project and the first job we needed to attend to was the repair of the chimney. After two days work with scaffolding and 3 people this is the result. It doesn't look good to me - we were promised removal of the existing mortar and new mortar put in and new lead work. Some of it looks ok but there are bits missing mortar and the job just looks messy. Am I expecting too much? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its not, we've just had this done by a roofing company. We didn't do it ourselves. I have that horrible sinking feeling that we've just been ripped off but thankfully we've only paid a deposit so far.

They're coming back to completely repoint the chimney. If there are any roofers out there that can spot anything else we should know about please let me know. Urgh this is why we like to DIY where possible!

It looks like they carried out the work from the ground - with a catapult.

It looks like they have painted gloop over the lead on the right hand side of the chimney.

The pointing- did they do it with a spoon?

The flaunchings at the top look like regular sand and cement. AFAIK, it should be sharp sand and cement.

I think you might be better off forgoing your deposit and finding a new firm.

Here is a bit of before and after pointing I did on my roof/chimney during covid lock down cos i was bored and had nothing to do ( 68 year old diyer at the time) I would expect pros to do just as good if not better
