We have a free single collection, once per year, for up to three bulky items. Beyond that, you have to pay them £20 fee. You book it online, and they give you a date - they used to give a date, and either morning, or afternoon. Three weeks ago, I booked them to collect a double mattress, and given a date of the 18th. I put it out in the drive, making sure no rain was forecast, and made a point of waiting in all day. Not collected by late afternoon, so I rang waited on the phone 30 minutes to get through, only to be told the 18th, might mean 18th,19th, or 20th, but not to worry, the forecast is dry for the rest of the week. Anyone tried lifting a sopping wet through mattress???

19th today, and still sat there... Some people, probably don't have drives, and so have to store indoors, and so would have to be home to let them collect - basically staying off work for three days. No wonder they pay independents collect, and dump such items in lay-byes/in the countryside.

This is free, right? And you are moaning.

I would never pay an independent to cart my rubbish away for a fee, unless they were licensed. Perhaps you do Nosey?
I use a local skip company, have used the same one for decades. If I did use a free service to lug my manky mattress away, I would not stamp my feet and expect premier treatment.
