· Installation of smoke detectors.

· Installation of replacement distribution board.

· Installation of replacement under and over cabinet lighting.

· Replace single socket by twin socket.

£875.00 excluding vat.

Any views much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I’d say that was low but I would always fit Aico smoke and heat alarms which aren’t the cheapest - but are the best

Thanks Murdochcat. That's very helpful.
For what it's worth, it sounds pretty low to me, too. I presume that the quote includes the cost of materials, so, as has been suggested, I would be asking about the proposed make/type of alarms, and also the make and specification of the proposed 'replacement distribution board'.

Way, way too cheap.

Well the "quote" is for the first three items "installation" the fourth item is "Replace".
My usual term for most things was "Supply & and Install ....... blah blah blah" and for other things might have been "Install .... blah blah blah, as supplied by yourselves" .

In the OP it could just be for labour only for the first three (possibly including a few sundry items) and pretty indeterminate as to who supplies what for the fourth item & replace might merely mean install it.

Given no detail is given much on the brand or size etc etc of the goods make it all not determinate and therefore the whole lot becomes a "One Horse Contract" as the saying goes.

Sorry

Quite - that's why I felt the need to qualify what I wrote with (obviously implying that I was not certain that my 'presumption was correct!) ...
.... I presume that the quote includes the cost of materials, so ....

Kind Regards, John

Seems like a Saturday cash price.

Consumer unit £200

2 smokes and a bit of 3 core £50

4 kitchen under cabinet lights £40

£500 in the pocket 1 day.

Perhaps - but as has been said, we don't really know whether the quote relates to just the labour or whether it includes materials (taken literally, the OP implies only installation, not including supply of materials).
If the quote doesn't include materials, then the entire £875 could end up 'in the pocket' (with Mr HMRC getting most of the added VAT :-) )

I just checked the quote again. The word 'supply' doesn't appear anywhere.

It's an established local firm which I came across when another established local firm (of heating engineers) brought it in to install a smart thermostat, which was supplied as well as fitted.

All the same, I'm hearing alarm bells, not least because the thermostat wasn't the brand I was expecting (it was a Honeywell not a Nest) and it was free standing rather than wall mounted, which I wouldn't have accepted had I known in advance.

Shall I walk away?
