String seems like a lot of work compared to using a length of wavin to get centre
1 minute job with the wavin and you can make any adjustment needed
You can always fire up a dummy pendant with a single screw to see are you happy with location before wiring up

Say you're ceiling is approx 12 ft wideI thought that wavin might some type of string- evidently not. What is it? Tnx

As I said, it's all in the ('aesthetic') eye of the individual beholder, so not really a situation in which 'advice' from outsiders is much use.I'll probably get slated for this but I usually get a marker pen and dot it where I think, stand back admire my dot and move it to suit....the look is better than measurements ....sometimes.
I am, and never have been, an electrician, but maybe I'm of that certain age, because I've been doing that for a very long time and, indeed, was using 'functional equivalents' for the purpose long before I'd even heard of mini-trunking (or its lids!)Maybe its a local term thingy , in fact most electricians of a certain age are exponents of the art of using mini trunking lid for feed cables under floorboards from well before Super rod etc was invented.
My first few rewires I had a 110v drill (not sds) and a hammer and chisel.....it was fine didn't really give it a thought....these days I cant screw an inch and a half screw in without an impact driver. That is so true about the mini trunk lid
It was the goto for domestic rewiring work and probably still is for certain situations.
Electrical work has totally changed now .
The work has evolved massively with evolution in tools , technology and materials and building construction
You have to be aware of or taught the best methods for the installation work you are doing or you're way behind the curve
Why is it you know so much about electric stuff?I am, and never have been, an electrician
