Did you write that Pete?

Did you write that Pete?
That needs to get in the bin for a start

My goodness. I guess I need to thank you for such a flattering comment but, although I wouldn't regard myself as being particularly unintelligent, I'm not sure that I would reecognise myself from your descriptionJohnW2 you are an intellectual powerhouse
I often google my old red 2.8 capri to see if its about at any car shows, but recently was all excited as it came up with a picture, on close inspection it was a fake red Capri with the same reg.
I assume that was AI
If any one finds my car A257RTR let me know
Indeed - or, at least that was when a V5C was last issued, presumably at the time of a change in registered keeper. It looks like it was last resold 16 April 2025
I missed that v5 change somehow, there was a for sale add on gumtree with pics a few years back and it looked in a bad way then.Indeed - or, at least that was when a V5C was last issued, presumably at the time of a change in registered keeper.
It is 'taxed' until 1st April 2027, but since it's been over 40 years old (first registered 6 April 1984), this probably cost £0.
By virtue of its age, it also ought to have been exempt from MOTs for the last couple of years, and it's most recent MOT expired recently, on 1st April 2026. There are recorded MOTs in March/April for every year from 2018 to 2025 (none earlier), almost all 'clean first-time passes, with no advisories). During that 7-year period, the car has done a total of 989 miles (current figure 95,161).
Interestingly I broke-up a van some 35ish years ago but never scrapped it, going through old papers recently I found all the documents for it and wondered if it still showed as registered to me, DVLA check shows as 'not found'.I often google my old red 2.8 capri to see if its about at any car shows, but recently was all excited as it came up with a picture, on close inspection it was a fake red Capri with the same reg.

Yes. I think there are a lot of big holes in DVLC's retrospective digitisation of old vehicle records - that's very probably why one can't find on-line MOT records for rocky's car prior to 2018.Interestingly I broke-up a van some 35ish years ago but never scrapped it, going through old papers recently I found all the documents for it and wondered if it still showed as registered to me, DVLA check shows as 'not found'.
you either tax it or sorn it, you would have been fined by now.Interestingly I broke-up a van some 35ish years ago but never scrapped it, going through old papers recently I found all the documents for it and wondered if it still showed as registered to me, DVLA check shows as 'not found'.
Indeed, although I think that SORN was all a bit messy in its earliest days.you either tax it or sorn it, you would have been fined by now.
I suspect that there could well be something rather iffy about the recent MOTs on your Capri - to have half a dozen consecutive 'first-time passes with no advisories' must all but unheard of for a car nearly 40 years old! Without the reg docs one cannot determine who did all those MOTs, but I can't help but wonder whether they may have been done by the owner himself/herself, or by one of their friendsAs John says I think its there system, i could see mots back years until they started digitising stuff.
As you say; back in those days one didn't have to Sorn unused vehicles but I did ignore several letters which explained the consequences of using untaxed vehicles on the road.you either tax it or sorn it, you would have been fined by now.

I have a off road trial bike thats legally road registered from 1976 that dont come up, i wrote to dvla when they started sorn but had no reply.
Bloke in my road has 2 cars with the same reg, says not found on dvla, yet on the insurance database 1 car is insured, yet he drives both?
Possibly however one of the garages I used to use was a 'while you wait service' in fact at time I was taking around 6-9 vehicles a year there and eventually I started doing the driver controls part of the test - steering, switches etc to save time, any small quick fixes would be done on the spot while the test was still in progress. Aside from that we always kept our vehicles in good repair so failures were uncommon.Indeed, although I think that SORN was all a bit messy in its earliest days.
