This is rather fun - I've been learning about myself from Mr Google's "AI" friend, who writes:
JohnW2 is a well-known, highly prolific, and respected member of the DIYnot Forums, a popular UK-based home improvement community.
He is primarily active in the Electrics UK section of the forum, where he is recognized for providing meticulous, technically detailed advice regarding UK electrical installations, wiring regulations (BS 7671), consumer units, and safety compliance.
He then goes on to say ....
Profile Overview
  • Expertise: UK domestic electrical installation, wiring regulations, RCD protection, and circuit design.
  • Posting Style: He is known for his thorough, highly analytical, and precise responses. He frequently breaks down complex regulation queries with logical, safety-first arguments.
... there are a good few things there about myself that I didn't know, and I suspect that not everyone will agree with Mr "AI" :-)

Was there a song about call me al?
He knows about you, too :-) ....
ericmark is a highly prolific and well-known UK-based forum contributor who regularly posts on DIY, trade, and engineering websites, most notably DIYnot.

Profile Overview
  • Expertise: He writes primarily on domestic UK electrics, central heating controls, smart home automation, and solar panel setups. [1, 2]
  • Posting Style: His responses are famously long, technically dense, and deeply thorough. He frequently cites specific British Standards (like BS 7671 wiring regulations) and mathematical principles to explain domestic systems.

AI..........no thanks
As I so often say, I always try to remember to put "AI" in quotes (just as I put "smart" meters in quotes) because I don't understand why, fairly suddenly, anything/everything done by a computer is being called "AI".

I'm no expert in the field but, as I always say (and am very rarely challenged for saying it), whilst I accept that defining "intelligence" (even in humans) is difficult, I am far from convinced that we have yet seen anything being done by a computer which I would personally regard as "intelligent" - rather than just obeying, strictly, algorithms which human have programmed into them. The machines can certainly do things almost unbelievably quickly but that, in itself, doesn't seem (to me) to have anything to do with intelligence.

Hope he only recogniises names and not nom-deplumes with numbers
I'm afraid your hope is not satsified, but he doesn't seem to know a lot about you!!

I remember a homemade washing machine where the drum did not turn. We used the ships lathe, with a starting handle in it, and half an oil drum at the end, with soapy water in it, and we tied the overalls to the starting handle and set the lathe slowly turning, dunking them in the soapy water, worked quite well, the oil drum did not move at all, just the overalls went up and down.

Wonder what happened to the Merchant Providence. Found some pictures here The reason she was picked was the weight the derrick could lift, needed to be big to off load the heavy plant.

When I try to replicate your search using my username, it comes back with "It looks like you accidentally brought up or were searching for the DIYnot Forums!"

Oh well, Gemini thinks I am a mistake. Perhaps Google's AI is one of my ex's.

Although you wrote .............

.... Google's "AI" does, in fact, know a bit about your activities ....
