Waiting for the beer festival to start, I re-read the posts, and we have seen a change, we all knew that in winter there was a risk of a black-out due to lack of solar, but now warnings of black-out may happen because to the sun.
I can't understand why, my electric use has dropped, and even when running an AC, I may have used an extra 7 kWh, but still exported 17.4 kWh, so where is the problem?
I note the plug and play solar debate, and the lack of battery storage, and also see the problem with the supplier likely not told when they are fitted. But if made legal I can't see many completing the G98 unless they are going to be paid for export.
So the reality is, we don't have the data, we are not required to inform should a solar array fail, so the only way is to get the data from the smart meters.
Loss of the teleswitch should have resulted in a massive increase in smart meters, but as it stands, we do have a two teer supply, but the only domestic items which can now be turned off without causing a general black out is the EV, and with V2G EV, to turn off the EV supply would be to cut of noise to spite one's face.
We have dual output smart meters, and if a discount is offered for any supply using the off-peak option, then we could see a dual supply, so the supplier could turn off part of ones home, immersion heater etc. But in spite of using off-peak, the meter fitted only has one output, so the supplier only has the option of all or nothing, if the dual supply was standard then we would design new builds at least to use it.
So there have been changes since the thread was started, with V2G EV and seems likely plug and play solar, it seems France has a lot lower supply to homes to us, with smart meters where using over the agreed amount of power, causes the meter to trip.
I don't like that idea, but having a scale so more power used, the more you paid per kWh could get people to use less, but then you would kiss goodbye to heat pumps and EVs.
Basicly we should stop pushing heat pumps and EVs. We could use the electrification of the railways to also provide a movement of power around to country to where needed, like India has done.
When 90% of the railways are electrified, I will accept the goverment is really serious about electric power, until that point, it is clearly just a method to get votes.
