LED bulbs flashing on table lamps

Hi

I bought 2 different brands new table lamps, 2 new sets of E14 LED bulbs (OSRAM 6.5W and ARGOS 3.4W). All bulbs are dimmable and table lamps have 3 stage dim functions.

On all set ups and on both table lamps, the bulbs goes fom off, low, high and flashing and back to off when table lamps toiuch dim functions used. All bulbs works perfectly on rotary dimmer switch.

To work some electronic switches, not only dimming switches, a very small current is passed through the bulb even when off to work the electronics, if the by-pass resistor in the bulbs is not large enough, then the bulbs will flash.

Way to stop it is a capacitor across the bulb contacts or different bulbs, or a dimmer/switch which uses the neutral, or has a battery in it, or simply use smart bulbs and remove the dimmer.

Whatever dimmer is built into the table lamp is not compatible with LEDs.

With the price of a smart bulb today, who wants a dimmer built into a lamp, I can understand when using 8 bulbs, so dimmer switch works out cheaper, but a standard lamp or desk lamp, there is really no point.

Two bed side table touch lamps are easier and more convient to operate and is preferable in this application.

I also have a touch control table lamp in my bedroom, never touched, as it messes it up, I will assume set to max, with a smart bulb set to minium output, which is 10% where a dimmer switch only goes to 50%, and I simply say hey google turn on/off desk lamp, but I am only one in the room, so voice does not matter.

Likely a tungsten bulb will work, and if mine, that's what I would do, for the amount of time the lamp is on, cost or heat unlikely to be a problem, just use a tungsten bulb.

Underrstood. The touch bedside lights that you have are not compatible with the new LED lamps.
The solution is obvious.
You could:
1. Ask the manufacturer/supplier to tell you the correct replacement LED lamp,
OR
2. As Money is no object, buy new bedside lights.

I have already bought 2 sets as said in my first post, are you saying to buy a third set? It's a bit silly suggestion,no?
I can live with off, low, high, flash. TBH the flash is a good feature for a bedroom table lamp.

I have contacted both suppliers, one said they will arrange collection...

You can still get tungsten bulbs they are more expensive to getting a smart bulb, but that's the easy way out.

I know I still have a draw full of them, should really put them in the bin. Do you live anywhere near me? Can't really post them.

Ahh. So you bought the lights and the lamps separately?
Maybe I misunderstood. If you bought them separately, buy a product that is delivered, complete and working.

I would disagree with that, in as much as you may want the table lamp to be bright for reading, then dim for TV viewing.

Come on, be fair, we have all been caught out with LED lights, big 60 watt written on the packet, only when you read small print do you see 12 watt really, when I moved in here, clearly had been a 100 watt, or even 150 watt pendent lamp, since found bulbs with wings at 40 watt, but a 12 watt bulb sending all the light away from the base, so nothing reflected from ceiling, so forced to get a multi bulb chandelier to get anywhere need to lighting the room.

Dimmer switched went with the CFL, but electronic on/off switches we still had, and finding bulbs flashed, stayed on dim, and finding something which worked, has I am sure plagued us all.

My wife getting a G9 chandelier for her bedroom was a nightmare, in the end we did find bulbs that worked but the covers no longer fit.

Please Note:

Recommended bulb type: 5.5W Dimmable LED mini globe E14 (not included).

This lamp is compatible only with dimmable LED bulbs. It is not suitable for use with compact fluorescent bulbs or non-dimmable LED bulbs.

Have you tried to get SES bulbs to work with a dimmer, the clue is "Maximum Wattage 60W" where would you get an SES LED bulb at 60 watt, clearly not designed for LED. And likely you will need to try half a dozen bulbs before you find one which will work.

now this in theory is the same, but it comes with an LED bulb, and with the phone charger built in, it is clearly designed for modern equipment. And this one

with the integral lamp, more likely to work, but we only know that from bitter experience of having devices which will not work with LED bulbs.

I got a remote controlled bulb for the visitors room, did not want it on the wifi as wanted visitors to be able to use it. Every time we get a visitor its I hunt for the remote, where has my daughter put it? Would have been better with a smart bulb, but daughter does not want google listening to her, why does she give out state secrets in her sleep?
