THAT T Shirt

It's remarkable how the usual blinkered few on this forum find this Guardian cartoon hilarious without stopping to consider the timing.
Ann Widdecombe had only recently been brutally murdered, and police were investigating whether there was a political motive. Against that backdrop, mocking Nigel Farage for objecting to violent imagery aimed at him isn't brave satire, and it does demonstrate a darker undertone.

The Guardian is perfectly entitled to publish political cartoons. Freedom of the press includes the freedom to offend, i get that. But legality isn't the same as decency. Publishing a cartoon that ridicules concerns about violent political imagery so soon after a real political killing risks trivialising the climate that all politicians now face, i think a point Highway Man was making about people getting upset and 'over excited' by them.

I can't help wondering whether the reaction would be the same if the roles were reversed.
If a prominent left-wing politician had just been murdered and a right-leaning newspaper published a cartoon mocking colleagues for objecting to execution imagery, I suspect there would be widespread outrage, i for one would raise my hand and call it out, no matter the political position. Whereas some people on this forum have a football fan mentality mindset, they have been programmed to see them as 'the enemy' no matter what they say, they share the same references and derogatory terms just like a football fan see's the opposition in a football match, it's Neanderthal, its like they are the same person?

Behind every politician is a real person with a family, friends and a life beyond politics. We don't have to agree with someone's politics to recognise that. Treating violence or the fear of it as a punchline, particularly so soon after a real killing, is something we should all be better than.

The slogans on Farage's t-shirts are quotes made by him over several years; highlighting the hypocritical lack of self-awareness he suffers from. Your take on this cartoon is seriously flawed.

I rest my case, my god another 1dimensional debate, can't you guys think in parallel or reason outside your own brainwashed life?

You've replied to an argument I never made. Nobody said Farage's quotes were beyond criticism. The issue is the timing. A politician had just been murdered, yet The Guardian thought it appropriate to mock concerns about violent political imagery, are you with me, hello Mcfly? Yes i know you hate 'Far-rage' etc etc yes we know that well done, your friends on here know that and congratulate it also.

If your only response is "but but but Farage said things I don't like.. waa waa..", you've completely sidestepped the point. Ironically, while accusing others of lacking self-awareness, stop smoking da weed.

what case? I've given you the reason why that cartoon is not offensive - unless you're a fully paid-up member of the Fartrage fan club.

I do not understand how people get so upset over politics and politicians, but some do get over excited by them.
Those making the idiotic arguments know they can't win the debate so just attempt to silence the opposition by using violent threats.

Lefties all know that they're probably spouting irrational nonsense really, they just can't admit it, even to themselves.

You haven’t really fallen for their faux outrage, surely.

That traitorous treasonous scumbag publicity hound, deserves everything he gets.

Indeed, and the funny thing is I wouldn't support Nigel as our next leader or Prime Minister, but I do support his willingness to speak up. Some people have been convinced that simply expressing an unpopular opinion is somehow unacceptable. More fool them, as above ive demonstrated with Odds he mostly misses the point, the reasoning is too simple in his mind to instantly assume X. Silly S'Odd

What I don't support, as you say, is people wishing ill health, violence or worse on those they disagree with. There are people on this forum who routinely use some pretty nasty rhetoric and somehow get a free pass. Yet I suspect that if the same behaviour were directed at them or their own family, they'd suddenly recognise how unacceptable it is.

Being able to distinguish between disagreeing with someone's views and wishing them physical or mental harm is the hallmark of a civilised society. Failing to make that distinction is a step towards the sort of behaviour we'd expect from a society where intimidation replaces debate. That is not welcome here on this forum or any part of the UK, maybe these people have been born elsewhere and don't understand this concept.

He's a fascist.
He's far-right.
He's racist. (what else could be the reason i need to defer to what i am told to think)

No rules broken, no ad hom's are there that is picking on you other than replying with perhaps a light hearted joke that is clear for all to see. @festive has put his point across along with his own views. You have nothing to complain about given some of your past comments along with your mates comments.

Silly Sodds.

You seem happy to diagnose what was it... "hypocritical lack of self-awareness" in others, but remarkably sensitive when someone holds the same mirror up to you. The irony rather speaks for itself.

You lot are laughable, talk about house of cards. Give me a fekin challenge someone, that's why i come on here, not to abuse but to debate, i can't stand it when people throw their hat into the ring, which transpires to be a soggy comfort blanket.

Fromage is a publicity hound. If you think for one minute that he didn't deliberately inflate this incidednt for his own ends, you are deluded.

Hence the disinterest from the police. They ought to send Fromage a cease and desist letter or an invoice.
