Electric shower crisis.

That's the smartest shower I've ever seen. Fantastic.
This is our shower, a basic exposed bar mixer. The house was new build 43 years ago with a Myra exposed rotary mixer which we've had had replaced with this.

The benifit of an electric shower is that you can still have a shower if the combi breaks down on Christmas eve.
If you have two showers in the house. Then keep the electric shower.
But a decent thermostatic mains fed shower via a combi would be such a better shower than electric.

It is my son's house with the broken electric shower and he only has this one shower over the bath. He is currently managing with a temporary push on shower on the bathtaps.
It is in my house where we are considering putting in a second back up shower in the bathroom in addition to the en suite one shown in the photo. Sorry if that caused confusion.
I think the cheapest, best and safest option for my son is to disconnect the old ancient electric shower wiring and get a plumber to install a mixer shower similar to ours to replace the electric one. I think any good electrician would condemn the old shower wiring and want to upgrade the old consumer unit as well to conform with latest regs for electric showers.
As I said, his combi boiler is directly behind the wall on which the shower is mounted (the boiler isn't actually on the same wall) so pipework should be straightforward for a plumber. Just two holes for the hot and cold feeds.

Its a solution to a problem. And l'd imagine a decent wash.
That is a point though about relying solely on your combi working for showers but if either your water or your electricity is off as has been happening here recently , you're snookered anyway.
We used to have the old gravity-fed hot water system with a hot water storage cylinder and huge cold water tanks in the loft. It did mean that we still had some hot water if the power or the water went off but the shower pressure was pathetic.
