TBF 99.9% of blue brick are laid the normal way (BOE) the way they are laid on the photo is a lot easier for a novice though, they are rough on top and likely gather moss etc, and also the colour will vary, to me it looks like a block paver on top, not my cup of tea
I remember you saying this at the time, and I get what you mean. I’ve done on edge before and as you say, this was a bit quicker. I'll update when it's done. Although I'll confess that I've got loads of work on, so a brickie will be building in this case. I've previously built garden walls with brick-on-edge before though.
Not on clay, no. The mortar joints usually do (which ever way around).
