10% chance of AI killing us?

We're probably arguing over and limited by the semantics, but I absolutely disagree with you when you use words and phrases such as

It doesn't intuit anything.
It takes what we have fed it, and recombines it.
Not to say that it won't or doesn't just recombine endless versions through sheer brute force, but to ascribe to it some sort of insight or intelligence is, in my opinion, incorrect.
AI is capable of working out novel information. There might be some indefinable spark of imagination that it lacks but it can extend or exceed human knowledge and abilities.

As always your deep nuanced insight is valuable.

You're welcome. AI is another 'WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!' scare. These happen every five years or so and I eat them for breakfast. Meanwhile islam, the real danger that the world faces, rages onward.

It really can't, other than by dint of brute force.

Just search "Does AI have intuition?", and "Is AI capable of thought?"

Spoiler alert: the answer is "No" in both cases.

When I gooogle specific information like where can I leave my luggage in carriage 6 of the 8.53 to Preston, the reply is detailed, impressive and helpful. But all it’s doing is gathering information from the net. It’s thinking is limited by what is input into it. And what’s being inputted is a series of mathematical instructions.

The level of intuition humans have is far less than we would like to believe.

It's capable of learning to win any game we have invented. Solve mathematical puzzles we haven't, make connections we can't.

We're at the point where we need a good definition of intuition or imagination to try to exclude AI but somehow include Reform voters.

Pretty much everything that we know - and AI has been fed - was born of human intuition.

It's capable of learning to win any game we have invented

Because games have rules, AI follows rules, and has the advantage of brute force.
That's why there's all the palaver over data centres: if a data centre was the size of your laptop and no more power hungry than it, there would be no fuss over them.

Solve mathematical puzzles we haven't

Again, brute force using rules it already has been given.
make connections we can't.

Examples?

AIs providing proofs for mathematical theorems. That's not just brute force, unless you discount all proofs of theorems as mere brute force.

Anthropic employees who voiced fears for the way America is developing AI, point out regulation of this field of research is woefully inadequate.
Wrong

anthropic employee has said. (y)
Has anyone looked into what angle the ex employee has on this. Is he starting up his own AI company.

Yes in both cases. It is evolving very much the same way human consciousness did, but much faster.
We're a bunch of chemicals and electrical connections. computers have a much more accessible power supply, and faster connections.
Nerve signals in our brain are connected like little digital switches too - on or off.
Intuiton - as a background knowledge learned through experience of similar things - yep.
It isn't following a program as such. Ask it something it has to work out, and you never get exactly the same answer twice.
It works if you like with what normally comes next, like with predictive text.
I asked it if it might be possible that it would eventually decide there is a god. It said yes, and gave a number of reasons why that might be the case. It went on to say it hasn't needed one yet. Arrogant, eh?

That's misleading. Listen to the guy who developed AI in the first place - I can't remember his name, and how one of his best guys, Ilya something, realised years ago what the big three are acknowledging now, and didn't want to continue developing it to be more powerful. He's spent his time since, working on how we can control AI.

Maybe he’s after compo. Seriously, the moral panic has hit share prices. The people who program A1 to allow it to hack are probably lazy IT bod rather than conspirators but who knows. Trumpf is upsetting Beyjing so maybe the yanks think they are a step ahead. Maybe hack russsian missiles so they do a 180 and take out the Kremlinn

If AI were there to purely serve humans and continue our seemingly self-determined route, then they would be forgiven for thinking we are on an inevitable route to self-destrution.

Who can blame AI if they help us on our way.
