Connect Aco drain to hopper/gulley

What?! You're talking about running the downpipe into an inspection chamber now? No no no no!

The ACO drain unit needs to go exactly where your old gulley is. The downpipe will run directly into the top of it. The channel will slot into its side.

The bottom of the ACO drain unit needs to go via any kind of trap - the choice is yours, but it needs one or your garden will stink.

Honestly and bluntly, you need to think about whether this job's beyond you!

With the exception that you'll have just one channel connected, and just an end cap (8) at the far end.

Cut out the bottom of unit (5) and plug into a trap, which connects into the combined waste/rainwater system.

Ensure there's access from the chamber to the trap, don't use any 90 degree corners.

Also your unit (5) will have the riser collar on top so it's as tall as your taller covers.

This requires your sewage pipe to be low enough - if not then you have the option of swapping to conventional grate covers as shown in the diagram to save about 100mm of depth requirement.

The gully is going to be replaced. In the unlikely event of it being a back inlet type, it's very likely it's pointing towards the building so is unusable, and is probably too shallow for the slot type of drain to be used here.

A back inlet gully does not provide an airlock between its inlet and outlet. Stink gas coming up the outlet pipe will be free to travel up its inlet pipe. It only provides an airlock between its top grate and the pipes below. Anything connected into a back inlet gully requires its own trap.

They can be rotated using fittings easily.

No it wont as long as the trap is full - which is usually the instant rain falls.

Utter rubbish. The seal is formed by the slot-in plastic piece that forms a u-bend between the inner and outer sections, sealing the air above it. The inlet and outlet pipes do not have an airlock of any sort between them, and vented gas can freely flow.

What happens when you're wrong is that you turn nastier. We've all seen it on far too many threads. Just say you're wrong and move on.

There's absolutely nothing between the top of one pipe and the other, the water sits at the same level as the bottom of the pipes. The only air path that is blocked is between the grate on the top and the pipes below.

Don't employ botchers from Staffordshire. Even if they do claim to know what they're talking about and have a tantrum when they're proved wrong.
