Sockets in thin walls 7 cm

If you want to screw into breeze, or other weak or crumbly material, I recommend drilling an oversized hole (it will probably do that anyway), hoovering out the dust, then injecting builders adhesive into it, starting with the nozzle deep in the hole so there is no airgap, then pushing your plasplug right in, slightly below the finished level of the plaster. The pressure will force it into cracks and gaps. Smooth it off and leave it overnight to set. When you later screw into it, the adhesive will hold the plug firmly without turning, and will transmit tbe expansive load to the wall without spot loads or cracking,

You can put a long screw a couple of turns into the plug to use as a handle when positioning it.

Some of the adhesive will squidge out, you will learn how to use a little less when filling the hole.

This is a simplified, economical, low-tech version of the technique for setting strong studs into concrete,

Just out of curiousity. Is it possible to say do non electrical work myself and then get an electrician to connect it up as a cost saving measure or is that false economy?

If you are capable of doing the work yourself, then you are also capable of connecting it.

Doing half of it and then having someone else 'connect it up' achieves nothing.

It usually doesn't work out if you do work upfront without consultation

Mistakes or bad workmanship etc. due to lack of experience/training

How would he sign that he had designed and installed it?

If you deafinatly got 7cm i think i would use 35mm metal boxes bolted together. Chase the wall out with a good 2" all round larger hole. Then on one side screw a peice of about 12X2x1"wood across one side of the hole. Then go to the other side of the hole & put your 2 box that are bolted together in th hole & scew to the back of that piece of wood. Now get some one coat plaster & fill in around the boxes, leave it over night & take the screws ou that you fixed theboxes with & go into the other room & take the piece of wood off the wall & fill with more one coat. Worth also putting some screws through the side of the boxes for somthing else for the plaster to gip onto. Remember to take the cable knock outs, out of the boxes before any plastering. The only reason i say one coat is its got good adheasion & dosnt go off to quick.

I get it thanks both.

Yes there's that. I'll leave this job to the pros.

It says partition walls on first floor in region of 70 mm made of concrete blockwork and plaster. I'll know for certain in a weeks time:)
It sounds like 2" breeze blocks to me, 'twas very common in 1930's houses, in 1900's to 20's' 'twas common for 1½" studwork with lath and plaster. Both had 3x1½" door liners (2 or 3" studs for thicker walls)

Try giving a solution instead of picking on other people's suggestions.

How about you stop misrepresenting what I say as "picking on other people's suggestions" because you just don't want me on this site in any way, shape, or form. You and your cronies have succeeded in getting me ejected from General Discussion on the basis of utterly false accusations, and now you've decided to start on me in this forum.

Let's look again at this particular topic:

I would be tempted to put a socket on both sides.
One hole all the way through the wall with two metal boxes back to back.
So how would they be secured?
Screws going sideways or up and down? Sticks like sh*t?

Now - I happen to think that that could be a very workable idea. And I am not the only one.

Sticks like S*** or other solvent free grab adhesive works fine. Bolt the back boxes together back to back with a knockout between them for the cable if needed.

Use long faceplate screws and some steel or wood straps each side to hold the.boxes in position whilst the adhesive sets. Fill all gaps around the boxes with the adhesive to the finished wall level, or if you prefer slightly below and then use filler to make flush.

I did this on mine 30 years ago and they are still solid.

And now let's look at this exchange, the last post in which you quoted, with the criticism "Try giving a solution instead of picking on other people's suggestions."

Sounds like a clumsy, insecure solution.
In what way?
Every way .
So given the practical reality of a very thin wall you think that fixing through the sides of a back box into the most substantial available part of the wall is a clumsy, insecure solution.

OK.

Meanwhile, in the real world....

So, exactly which suggestion was I picking on there?

Was it the suggestion to install two boxes back-to-back, fixed through the sides into the wall?

Why, no, it was foxhole who did that, wasn't it.

Was I in fact criticising foxhole for saying that that idea was a clumsy, insecure solution in every way? Oh, yes, I was, wasn't I.

I only criticise dumb or dangerous solutions.
Im not on about you (y)

No, you're not. You're on about me.

Were it not for the fact that you are one of the people on this site who characterise requests for evidence to back up the claims they make as grossly unacceptable personal abuse I'd ask you to show where I have criticised a proffered solution here, and where foxhole has.

I wonder ? Do you carry deep, persistent feelings of inadequacy, worthlessness, and self-doubt?

OK.

Looking back it's possibly statements like this that's the issue

It's more of a putdown than a contribution

I can't say that I noticed issues with your postings until pete01 started complaining about it

Looking back though I recall suggesting sarcastically that another poster was "a bit of a genius " when I disagreed with a point so maybe I shouldn't be talking here

I didn't even know that, think back...who made a thread sticking up for you when the mods were giving you a tough time?
A possible solution here is a probationary period whereby morqthana agrees to raise the quality of his postings

During this time you agree not to criticise him and his posts

It would need both sides agreeable to this ?
