Armoured cable termination

When?

When I said behind I meant outside
ah okay. I was thinking that the armoured cable comes through the timber wall structure and up to a box (glanded here) behind the consumer unit. The wires then come through and connect to the CU. The armoured cable would be completely hidden as would the glanding. If it needs to be serviced, it's directly behind the consumer unit.

No I meant clip outside into the bottom of a box then go back entry into the consumer unit.

I get that now. I really don't want a SWA cable tracking up the outside of the garden room.
Is my suggested approach (variation on yours) an absolute NO?

I want a CU, because I can then have a separate circuit for internal, external lights, indoor ring and outdoor socket.

If they're all on the same RCD (in the house), there is little point in this. Just fuse down for the lights so that you can use thinner cable for them.

The alternative would be to have a non-RCD MCB in the house supplying this SWA, and then RCBOs in your new CU.

I suppose it gives me some isolation in the garden room. I can switch individual circuits off for any future maintenance, etc.

Run it tight next to the guttering?

Not in it
Sorry to persist with this and please excuse my ignorance. If the swa cable can be buried in the ground, why can’t it travel along a safe zone in a wall?
