ah okay. I was thinking that the armoured cable comes through the timber wall structure and up to a box (glanded here) behind the consumer unit. The wires then come through and connect to the CU. The armoured cable would be completely hidden as would the glanding. If it needs to be serviced, it's directly behind the consumer unit.

I get that now. I really don't want a SWA cable tracking up the outside of the garden room.
Is my suggested approach (variation on yours) an absolute NO?
If they're all on the same RCD (in the house), there is little point in this. Just fuse down for the lights so that you can use thinner cable for them.
The alternative would be to have a non-RCD MCB in the house supplying this SWA, and then RCBOs in your new CU.

Sorry to persist with this and please excuse my ignorance. If the swa cable can be buried in the ground, why can’t it travel along a safe zone in a wall?
