Thanks gcol, thought I'd try it out in Word, I held down the windows button and E until something happened, then it all sort of happened at once. I now have about 30 Explorer windows trying to open on my laptop downstairs none of which are currently responding (quelle surprise!) think I'll leave it till the inevitable processor meltdown occurs and try again in the am.
