Does anyone make a 2G 2-Way light switch ( preferably S/Steel or satin chrome ) with at least one of the switches complete with a neon ? Reason being is that I keep leaving the loft lights on after I've been in there & I thought a neon would help me remember

I've looked all over but I can't seem to find one, all of the neon equipped units seem to be fcu's or ccu's. I'm guessing that I will have to get one from the specialist outlets ?

Thanks as always.

*edit* I seem to remember a post somewhere where it was mentioned that it is permissible to wire the loft lights from the feed of another switch to avoid leaving them on, or was this just an example that isn't allowed ?

You could use MK Grid modules and fronts to make what you want.

You could also simply fit a neon ina grid plate next to the loft hatch.

You could wire it to the landing light, some people like doing this. I am not a fan.

Not brilliant
But you could wire a one way second switch or pullswitch in the loft and use that, it wont matter then if the downstairs one is left on then, but the downstairs switch will obviously have to be switched on before you access the loft to the second switch.

You could then if desired replace the two gang with a one gang which is easier to obtain.

Screwfix don't do the switch modules with a neon built in.

Yeah, I found that one out very quickly RF :( Been trawling through the sites trying to find out where is the cheapest. You've just given me another one to try - cheers :)

AND it's the cheapest by a quid :D You'll understand this being a Yorkshireman like me RF

I wouldn't mind doing all the passageway in Grid, so they match up but the cost soon sky-rockets :( At least this grid switch will be upstairs on the landing where no others are viewable, so it shouldn't be too bad. The other switches I'm looking at are very similar anyway.

Can I just confirm with you that these will fit into a standard 1G Cavity Wall box ? I'm going to order 1 X 2 module front plate, 1 X 2 module Grid & the two switch modules I need.

Thanks again.

I think mk also do the switches and cover in silver as well as white

The cover that I'm going for is the metalclad type, coz it matches up very closely to the standard switches I'm going to use downstairs. It would be nice to get the actual switch modules in silver as well but I couldn't see any on the site :?

Mk metalclad cover is like silver paint finish when you see it, and dont seem to fit nice to the wall as it is designed for a surface box
mk MCO matt chrome is in my opinion nicer and is more rounded to the wall as it is a surface front

The silver switches were in the cataloque but not sure if still are, they may be under a different MK range
The ones you are looking at are the gridplus ones I think there only black and white.
There is also a slimmer front Mk aspect range but I think it uses the same gridplus switches
I do not have mk book handy to check sorry

IIRC, the silver MK switch modules are part of the MK edge range of accesories.

Just read a new post and thought of this.

Bigzed
You are aware you will also need a neutral at the switch for the neon to operate

Hi,

Cat of complete MK grid range is here:

http://www.mkelectric.co.uk/products/ranges/rangelist.asp?RangeID=1026

I'm thinking of doing something very similar to OP as my wife insists on leaving the outdoor back light switched on but I will need to fit flush.

Does anyone know what depth the back boxes are?

Thanks.

PS. I know I have a neutral for hte neon because I installed the light some years ago before we lived in a police state and part taking the P existed.
