Fitting an electric shower - regs

Nothing wrong with that advice. It's perhaps easier for a DIYer to dig and prepare an appropriate trench than to expect them to terminate SWA glands correctly.
That's not a hard task, particularly given that DIYers are unlikely to be using anything bigger than 10mm².

Let's face it, they won't buy 20 glands and some extra cable to practise with.
At most an extra metre? And why that many glands? You only need 1 to practice with. They should be encouraged to do it properly, not bodge an inferior solution.

They wouldn't know how to test it correctly
That's true no matter what cable they use....

An inferior solution? Why is it an inferior solution? It's a alternative solution. I could think of a dozen reasons why protecting standard cable in a correctly constucted trench is superior to chucking a bit of SWA in the ground. But I fear I would be wasting my time.

The clue is in the A of the SWA and the reason why it is there.

A = Armour??
Your point being?
Properly earthed SWA burried in the ground complies with BS7671. Twin and earth in placcy conduit buried directly in the ground does not comply with BS7671.
And what has this got to do with the regs for an electric shower anyway :?

I understand some people have difficulty reading and understanding.

I wasn't me who first commented on running cable underground in this thread. So pardon me for commenting on someone else's post.

Perhaps if I libel someone and call them a liar, this thread will be locked too.

*grumble, grumble*... recommending shed supplies are installed in T+cpc, inside PVC conduit buried in the ground... *grumble*

Nothing wrong with that advice. It's perhaps easier for a DIYer to dig and prepare an appropriate trench than to expect them to terminate SWA glands correctly. Let's face it, they won't buy 20 glands and some extra cable to practise with. They wouldn't know how to test it correctly so it's perhaps the best overall advice given skills/safety/result etc.

Thanks for clearing up the fact that it wasn't me that first mentioned it.

Much appreciated. :D

I'm impressed you could find them  - when was the last time you used them?

Must be a few years ago now, I keep them handy tho as the theatres emergency lighting is all wired in pyro (distributed 48v system.)

I'm still waiting for my explaination of how a DIYer would correctly bury twin and earth in plastic conduit in the ground? :(
