which is the best white gloss that doesn't go yellow

Well lads this is my final message... I have just had a look at my bathroom door and airing cupboard doors,, they are all absolute crap.
I have never made such a bad job before.So much for Dulux water base gloss. I think it probably best left for the professionals.
I think what I am going to do next (to keep my wife out of my hair) I am going to give it all yet another light sanding , buy a decent brush and do it all in Acrylic or eggshell.
What do you reckon other than suicide, of course if any of you very kind charitable gentlemen live in Derby you could always call round and do me an old gits special price

You lot wont like this But I have just had the same problem with 6 flush doors. The lady reckons she was allergic to oil paint so waterbased thro... I was using that M.S.P go anywhere waterbased(well they are in their 80's) and no way would it let me finish laying off before it started going flashy, In desperation I got me 9"mohair sleeve and rolled a heavy coat on without laying offwith a brush. coo it dried out lovely well, a teny bit of orangey peeely but ok..

I've also just finished a job for an old lady that insisted I use low/non odour paint as she insisted that the ordinary stuff would kill her

I used Crown Breatheasy on the ceiling (covered well) then she said that the colour she wanted was the same as her friend had and that came from Wilko's ..So I gave her all the Third_degree doom and gloom blah, blah...you should be using Trade paint, blah, blah...and........panic over / couldn't believe it, it was great to use and about ten quid cheaper than well known stuff.
B&Q low odour gloss on wood and rad's. Full of brushmarks but a doddle to use.

Lady still alive and looking smug.

Not that it helps much but its reassuring to see other people are having probs with Dulux Water base gloss. Tell me who buys this stuff if its crap
if you cant get a decent sheen and its difficult to lose the brush marks who buys it and where do they use it..
Although I said before that the there would be no more questions from me I would like to clear one point. Are you saying the Wilco's gloss is an oil or water based, or something else. If its oil based the surely thats going to go yellow the same as the rest..

Basically I want a nice gloss finish that doesn't go yellow.

?????? I'm going barmy trying to sort my mess out.Is it a case of using oil based to get the finish I want and repainting every couple of years.

Your confusing yourself now Monty...Acrylic is water based gloss..and eggshell isnt gloss at all

I think, for your sanity you'd better stick to oil based gloss and do it every couple of years..its got to better that wrecking the paintwork.

Did you try the techniqies etc mentioned above?

Water based gloss (acrylic) takes a little mastering as people have said on here...but it can be done, its easier to show someone though than tell them on here

Hello again my very patient friend.

Yes I did try the techniques suggested.

I gave the first unsuccessful coat a light sanding down using 140 grade and then 200 grade. It fealt very smooth after finishing.
I then wiped it all over with sugar soap wipes and allowed to dry.
The following day I started again applying the paint in small areas at a time applying and spreading with a sideways stroke and then finishing off with a final down and up.
Thats it I think. I have been really dejected by all this and feel somewhat useless

i'd use dulux trade pure brilliant white oil based gloss over brilliant white under coat, make sure you get brilliant white u/c though as normal white is a bit grey and you may have difficulty getting the gloss to cover,
also buy your paint from a proper decorater center,as i,m not so sure the "trade" stuff is the same from the diy places,
another gloss i like to use is the dulux trade new work gloss i always get good results and it covers well

Growler,,, what can I say,,, my wife is a lot younger than I am 43 beautiful lady, you never know if she loves it that much it could lead to other things Thank you so much, I'll have a look round tomorrow see where I can find the best deal.

Yep I agree with Growler...go for the self undercoating one coat glosses...you cant beat em really..I use them nearly all the time.
