As for what Softus said - I have no idea, I didn't read it. I don't read any of his posts, haven't done for years, I have no interest in anything he writes.

That paragraph sums you up to a tee.

There are some people here who I have found so tedious, so pointless and so unable to ever say anything of worth that I have decided to just ignore them, and their worthless posts.

The forum provides the facility to do that via the Ignore button, and Softus/Dr.Drivel is one of the people I've used it on.

Ultimately there is, for me in all this argument, no way around this:

There is not one "logical" argument with any existence. I believe, with every fibre of my being, that it is wrong for society to kill people as a punishment and means of control. I believe that this is an absolute moral imperative, and it is not a position which can be argued for or against in any form of debate or explanation.

And I am genuinely disgusted by anyone who does want to kill. None of the things I have said here were said for effect, or to wind people up, or to provoke them - when I tell someone he's a worthless sickening **** I mean it.

I genuinely have no respect whatsoever for their views, any more than I respect the views of a predatory paedophile who wants to molest and torture children because for him that works for his sexual gratification, or the views of a crack-head who mugs old ladies because for him that works for the funding of his habit.

For your information I don't think that anyone who wants to join the forces wants to just go and kill people. They can do that on our own streets and get far softer sentences!

I'm sure that anyone wanting to join the forces wants to protect their country and it's inhabitants to help safeguard it's future in an ever changing and increasingly hostile environment.

Please don't judge others by your own intentions!

Every ex-squaddy I've ever met has been a complete fruitcake. Don't know if they make them mental in the army or if they are psychopaths looking for a legal way to kill. I'd suspect the latter.

Hmm, you've been watching too much Eastenders, methinks. The Army and SF is far from a gung-ho bunch of cyclepath vigilantes. There is, of course, a miniscule smattering of those who glory in the blood and guts of war (or who think they do, before they actually have to face it), but the vast majority are normal people, with the same fears, expectations, feelings as you or me. They just have to take on and deal with sights and situations that you can only hope you will never have to see or deal with in your lifetime. Take a trip to Hedley Court and see what those people have given in the name of our glorious bleeders, then come back and tell me that everyone who has ever served or is serving is the way that you say.

I feel that I want to kill the drug-crazed individual that has messed about with my daughter's and grandson's physical and mental wellbeing, yes.

But I won't: a) I'm not man enough to do it and b) the thought of the consequential punishment that would be meted out to me for so doing is horrendous enough for me, without capital punishment being available as a remedy.

Before you leap on that last bit and say ahah so why would we need the death penalty if that would stop you, I happen, like most people in this country, to be normal (despite a forces background ). But there are those for whom the current available remedies will never be sufficient to stop them from murdering someone; and it is those people who deserve to be shuffled off this mortal coil, without a backward glance, or cost-benefit analysis.

So someone's a ****, because their viewpoint does not coincide with yours? Of note, you don't use the same coarseness against murderers, paedos, muggers of old ladies in the street. It's plain to see where your priorities lie.

The only reason I think you're a worthless sickening **** yourself is not because you don't agree with the death penalty, which is fair enough - you are entitled to your view as much as I am to mine or any one else is to theirs - but because you have the temerity to aim such disgusting comments that at those who disagree with your obviously heartfelt point of view.
