I recently moved into a new house (new to me anyway!!) and am looking into adding some more sockets as they are few and far between as it is.
This is fine apart from a couple of things I have come across this weekend.

First of all I should say that every socket in the house is fed from a single 30 amp fuse in the CU and is run in 2.5mm T&E.

Problem number 1 is that the circuit appears to be a radial because the double socket in the shed has only one cable running to it and so has no return to the circuit. I also know it is not a spur.
Now this too is fine but I was under the impression that radial circuits should be run in 4mm cable with a 20 amp fuse. Am I correct in assuming this??

Problem number 2 is that upstairs there are 2 single sockets that have 3 cables coming into them. One of them is in bed2 which also has a single socket with only 1 cable so i assume that is spurred off. The other one in the landing however doesnt appear to be feeding anything. I have had every socket off the wall and no other socket (exc shed) has only one cable going into it so I am puzzled as to what the 3rd cable feeds (if anything).

I have done a quick sketch to show a little better (i hope!!!) what I mean.

Thanks

You don't actually say what your query is, but without wishing to sound rude, I don't think you should be attempting any of this work yourself, as it is clear from your post that you don't have enough knowledge.

Get a sparks in and let him/her do the thinking for you!

and judging by the last sentence on the bottom paragraph you dont have a tester?

Unless you buy a multimeter or you're willing to rip up all the floor then it's unlikely you'll identify where these cables go. There could be spurs off spurs, some odd DIY setup creating a second ring on the existing ring, no ring whatsoever (i.e. radial, whether intentional or not), etc etc.

Could also be that some idiot has taken an unfused feed from the back of a socket to power a light.

Immersion heater?

thats something i could look into actually.
i know the boiler is fed from the downstairs lighting circuit, but i hadnt thought sbout the immersion (never had one before!!)

to the first 2 replies i plan on getting a sparks out this/next week to check it all out and see what can/can't be done, i just havent got enough patience to wait to find out whats going on. once i get a project on and i hate waiting to start it!!!!
thanks for the advice tho
