I'm getting 3.5% - what about you?

I don't Google the info, I have a good memory and read a lot.

Being self-employed I'm still in negotiation with myself over this years pay rise. If I don't accept my offer I may have to withdraw my services or work to rule.

What I found is being self employed does give me lots of freedom to increase my prices as my over head increases.

Many times as an employee the cost of living adjustments (COLA) does not meet the actual price increases people face.

The Governments give pay increases then to cover these costs raise taxes then find other ways to tax the citizens with gas surcharges sales tax corporate taxes etc and the pay increases go out the window.

I remember when I bought my 2nd Mercedes I was hit with a gas guzzler tax and a luxury car tax plus 8.5% sales tax.. It put the 560 SEL over $140,000

Seems like the governments want to tax businesses out of the market place and they force the big companies to start manufacturing in a more friendly country such as China.

Nope. Read it 4 more times and it still says the same thing.

The client that will pay at the end of the month is not the same client owing £55,000.

then you are to thick to realise that you are thick and despite what mod7 says i can quote correctly, he is just to thick to realise that i can.

i've been offered 3.5% pay rise..... whoohoo... i can now afford less ! It cost me £78 to fill my car with deisel today !

I think you should stop whinging, our (small) company is fast running out of live projects, in fact my last deadline was today, as of Monday I only have a few projects on site to monitor, we're owed £55,000 (of which about £20,000 is owed by (now) bankrupt developers) and we're only going to get paid at the end of this month because we've managed to get one client to pay a bill by bank transfer on the 30th (hopefully).

Well that's you're right, but i think you're rude to tell me to stop whinging. You know nothing about me ! You may be experiencing hard times... aren't we all... for my part... and the original post... i work in an industry (computer programming) where the average is mid £40k's and i get less than £30k. Because, my company was outsourced and know the staff are local, and they can get off-shore to replace me at half the cost, so lets not pay him more !

Oh and btw, "to thick" should be "too thick".

I guess you are too thick to realise just how thick you are eh?

If we dont get a revised offer we are out on the 13/14 of July..the powers that be have said no one is allowed to take the time as holiday..(i think thats wrong personally) but must take it as unpaid..(whats the difference?????) whether they are in the union or not (im not)

Two ways of looking at strikes I think..

One..its selfish to allow other to lose time and money striking while your in work but happy to accept a pay deal becuase of their actions..

Two..if your not a union member why should you strike if you havnt been given an option to vote.?

Before the last one dayer I was told that I could cross the picket line if I wanted but might be in for a bit of 'abuse' an 'verbal intimidation'...I said to the rep fine..but if I get any **** after that I will start intimidating you..then youll know the meaning of the word..guess what..I got disciplined! lol

Not as if I could go to the union about it was it..oh well....thats life lol

At least have the guts to take me on in a debate in the open forum. What a cowardly little man you are. Sorry, you are not a man, you are a silly little puppy.

all sub contract bricklayers for Persimmon homes have had 17% pay cut.  Thats why we have left ! all the others will now follow suit is my guess.

Thats what they want you to do. If you dont then they get cheaper labour, with little building work due to start, when you leave where will you find work. Bosses are pretty clever
