Thames Water will not fix the stop cock on the road !!!!!

Went to a customer to change their stop cock under the kitchen sink- the supply pipe runs under the house to the sink. The stop cock is too close to the floor to use a freeze machine on it so went to turn it off in the road. That was rusty and fell apart when touched! Thames water were contacted and I was told that they would not replace the stop valve on the road -ever and they would only fix it if there was a leak. Surely this is wrong? How can I get them to fix it so that I can then put a new workable stop valve indoors

Be creative....it is there responsibility and water regs do apply......'to ensure no wastage of water....' tell em customer has a leak and unless you can turn off stop tap it will waste gallons.....and customer will sue for damages. I have NEVER had a water co refuse to fix......sometimes it takes days if it's not urgent which is fine but not in a case like this. Play your face and tell em you are going to offwat

I remember someone on here saying that water co is not obliged to provide a stopcock, it is customers responsibility, and some water co's tip concrete down the pavement hole to prevent access

Create a leak and tell 'em there's no stop cock or......

request a meter (takes a while), the customer then has a choice to go back to unmetered charges.

Play the utilities at their own game...they're all crooks.

MIght be an idea to tell them about the leak before it actually happens, then if they say no way, your not making things worse. If they say OK we'll be out as soon as we have finished our cuppa & rich tea then you nip out & make the leak

Certainly can although if you move house the meter stays for the new occupant (not a problem in smaller abodes where bills can be lower) but with larger gardens/hosepipes etc it may put buyers off. Anyhow meters will be compulsory for all soon.

only applies to the person initiating the meter request they have the choice to continue with metered or non metered supply but once fitted the next occupant has NO choice

Also in Surrey if you move house you will have a meter fitted whether you want one or not.
