We now have a shiny new electric shower and only need the stored water for one kitchen tap and one tap in the bathroom. I'm aware that the boiler is still heating the whole tank, so what's the best way to heat, say, half a tank? I'm getting an immersion heater, so do they make them so that they don't heat all the water? I'd rather use the gas boiler if possible though. My cylinder thermostat is about two thirds down - would it help if I moved it up so that it cuts out earlier or would this create problems?

sounds like a daft idea to me. If your cylinder is well insulated and pipework lagged why bother?

Uh-oh, watch it doitall, somebody will be along soon warning about the dangers of Legionella!

Of course it's dangerous... The camels spit at you, the arabs shoot at you and your comrades all eat garlic

dual-element immersion

but they are so expensive that you will not get your money back for many years.

Please explain why you don't just insulate the cylinder and the pipes around it. you could fit a timer if you only use 1 cylinderful of hot a day.

Move the thermostat higher up the tank so the boiler switches off earlier.

Then if you ever need more hot water you just move it back down again.

If you don't have a tank thermostat get one fitted.
