    Outside lights

Hi, I'm currently having house re-rendered. I have an outside light on each side of the house, both are fed from a fused connection unit on a bedroom, next to a double socket. Trouble is they've always been a bit too high up. World it be reasonable to fit a junction box where therlight...

    New Windows

Thanks for this - makes sense and i suspect you are all right. I never noticed on thle old window but that doesn't mean it wasn't a bit out of kilter. I think I'd like to have known when fitting as you say, I'd likely have accepted some internal making good but think now it's in I'll live with...

    New Windows

Hi, We've had new windows fitted by a local firm and are generally very happy with the job. There are just two issues which I'd welcome advice on (they are coming to look but wanting to check I'm not being unreasonable) One window I've noticed has the external cill much closer to the wall at...

    Replace wired door sensors

I have a wired alarm system, reliable and maintained. Just had new doors fitted and the fitters have put the old sensors back, which work fine but look old and yellow on the new frames. Is fitting a new one as simple as undoing and rewiring like for like, possibly entering user code to stop...

    Sand decorators caulk

We had a joiner fit some skirting to a new false chimney breast. He used caulk and smoothed with his finger leaving quite a raised line on the plaster (grr) Will it sand? It's so frustrating as it's still easily smoothed off when applied! Just worried I'll sand and make a mess..

    Wood floor gap

Thanks for all the replies. The board is definitely not for moving and I've messaged the guy who fitted this a few years ago, but no reply. How would you approach it, is it DIYable or something a joiner could make look a bit better? Really appreciate the advice.

    Wood floor gap

Thanks. Had a good kick, not budging. Any other idea ? Filler seems unsophisticated!

    Wood floor gap

Not sure about that. I saw him doing it. Each plank was nailed to the floorboards I'm fairly sure, will the planks move easily? .. He seemed to use a special nailer.

    Wood floor gap

Had this oak floor a few years now. Really happy with it. About a year after fitting this gap appeared. What would you do? Filler? Wood to infill? Leave it alone? I wouldn't be that bothered it's just right in front of a door...

    Externally beaded upstairs window blown

Hi, This small double glazed unit has blown. It's externally beaded, however it opens to a right angle. Can I replace this from the inside? I thought prise out internal rubber gasket, open window to right angle. Remove external beading (I assume external rubber gasket attached to it) and...

Franke Olympus Mono Mixer Kitchen Tap

I replaced my Olympus tap (after multiple cartridge changes) with this much cheaper old fashioned screw down re-washerable tap. It is better in every regard! https://www.screwfix.com/p/swirl-premium-high-neck-monobloc-mixer-kitchen-tap-chrome/17524

    Knots bleeding through - BIN?

Hi, we had a new staircase fitted about 4 years ago, painted professionally after. Now there are multiple brown areas showing through the white painted woodwork. I've read Zinsser BIN works well, do I need to sand back to the bare wood where the knots are or can i simply do a couple of coats...

Franke Olympus Mono Mixer Kitchen Tap

I bought my replacement cartridges from Franke! I'm always going to try and get taps with rubber washers from now on, the number of people I hear of trying to source cartridges, struggling with unknown taps, etc etc. It's so wasteful, when the previous system lasted for years and required the...
