    Small double glazing unit

Cheers- I phoned the local glaziers who were very helpful. Measured tight to the aperture and then took a bit off for glazing blocks. They recommended 4- 10-4 both panes toughened. Have to wait a week for the order though.

Joint crack between underside of stairs and wall

Hi, Snags seem to be taking an age to finish. Some cracks have appeared where we have plasterboarded and skimmed and painted the underside of the new loft stairs and existing plastered masonry wall. I'm not too worried about the cracks as in places to be expected perhaps. But would...

Diy Loft conversion 2 up 2 down 1900's terrace

good luck...just getting to the end of ours and floor going down next week- has been a journey! Did get a few of the trades in but still saved a good amount of wedge! Not sure why these loft companies are so adamant about the steels? Ours was perfectly doable in timber and plenty of...

Will water easily stain hard wax oil on timber floor boards

Having a debate with the mrs about floor finish to douggy fir timber floor boards which are going down next week. Having looked about there seems to be divided opinion. My good lady seems to think HWO will show up water stains - from what I have read this doesn't seem quite right although...

Base rail to balustrade and newel post question

Cheers fine with all the regs/ball proofing stuff. The 'post' will be notched over the floor joist and bolted/screwed through I sleep on it and see if the base rail can be detailed so it finishes flush with top of floor so will be less clunky

Base rail to balustrade and newel post question

We are fitting a return balustrade to the top of our loft stairs to form an edge guarding to the floor edge It will be formed from timber - for the spindles is a base rail needed or is this just a time labour saving device? The detail feels a bit clunky. The floor isn't in yet and will be...

    Door opening size

don't know what the pros think but u can shave a bit off the door and think it would be normal to do so A good fitting door should have about 3mm gap between frame and door leaf at jambs but a bit more would be ok

Door opening built to non standard door size

Have spoken to the carpenter and at least he has agreed to put it right for nothing  He said he doesn't normally have to chop the bottom of door linings to make it fit and they normally come at the correct length for the door width. The door door lining I got from wickes which has...
