    RCD consumer unit for landlords

Thanks holmshaw yes I am getting the test carried out but have been going through the house looking for possible faults beforehand. I read that as part of the test your RCD protection is checked and then realised my CU doesnt have them. If there is no requirement to upgrade I should be ok then.

    RCD consumer unit for landlords

Hi to get a landlord safety certificate does the consumer unit have to be a modern one containing RCDs. My current one looks about 15 yrs old and has MCBs. I have an RCD socket for garden/outdoor appliances but think that maybe all the circuits need protection otherwise it will fail ?

    Periodic Inspection / spur question

Thanks guys. Yes I was thinking four cables into a socket would be hard work. The 13A FU before the saniflo FU seems the best solution. I'll measure the distance between cable and gas pipe but think there is adequate distance Thanks again.

    Periodic Inspection / spur question

Thanks for the replies. The sanilflo is the only thing coming out of the load fused side so I see what you mean, the rest is not on the fused spur side. Not sure what size fuse it is but I think I will go with connecting the double socket to the ring, then I have 2 seperate spurs coming out...

    Periodic Inspection / spur question

Hi I am about to get the houses first periodic inspection for landlord purposes. I am sure many faults will become apparent but there is one that I am fairly sure will fail so will look to get it done before the inspection. There is a spur coming of the ring to a fused outlet for a sanilflo...

    Glowworm boiler cuts out

Hi I have a Glowworm sxi boiler, the whole central heating system (closed system) is just 3 years old. The boiler used to run at about 64C and was constant at that temperature when there was demand for heating or hot water. Now as soon as it gets there it cuts out, the pump still goes, it cools...

    fire rated downlights ?

Thanks for the quick, consise reply. I should have added this to the original post. There will be between 12 and 15 downlights in total, will this be ok to add to the end ceiling rose or should I make this a completely new circuit.

    fire rated downlights ?

Hi if I put low voltage downlights in a new kitchen extension do they have to be fire rated downlights. It is a flat roof with insulation above the rafters so no problems there. Thanks

    copper pipes in screed floor

Thanks for the reply. Yes I was thinking that using plastic would be easier. I have never used it before which is why I am hesitant. What is this felt sleeving you talk about, I have not seen or heard of it before ?

    copper pipes in screed floor

Hi I am planning on laying some central heating copper pipes in a screed floor that isnt laid yet. What sort of potection do I have to use for the pipes. I know I have to lag them but do they also have to sit in some sort of ducting as well. The screed will then be laid and tiled over. Thanks

    new ring for kitchen

Thanks for the quick reply. I see what you mean about the cooker, it is more to do with choice than regulations. It is not much more work to put in a proper cooker connection so I will probably add one. Thanks

    new ring for kitchen

Hi I hope to install a new ring circuit for a kitchen extension. The cables will run behind dabbed plasterboard walls. After doing some reading on here it appears that I have to protect the cables or bury them below 50mm. What is recommended for protecting them, pvc channel/conduit or metal ...

    breaking up hardcore

Thanks for that but now I am more confused :? I thought you laid all the hardcore material in the hole and then compacted it (not concrete it together). Cover with sand, DPM then concrete over it. Then insulate and screed. Does the hardcore need to be concreted together ?

    breaking up hardcore

Hi I am about to build up a concrete floor on an extension. I intend breaking up a mountain of old bricks and concrete for the hardcore. What size should I be looking to break them down to. Also once laid does it need to be compacted afterwards by machine or is it possible to do it by...

Thanks for the info. I checked with the BC and he recommended 175x50. I was going to say, so why did you pass the drawings with 150 timbers but decided against it
