If it was my own house I'd probably take the chance but plan in for a repair and have the parts ready to go and do it when I had chance.

Is it your own house? If so you decide whether to take the chance. If you've done this on a customers property then why take the chance?

I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference, the wood will still expand at a different rate, you just shouldn't tile onto it like that.
