Circular Saws

Hi - my 2nd time on here for some advice now! Our circular saw finally gave up the ghost last weekend (hardly surprising, my boyfriend's had it for over 5 years & his Dad had it for years before that & he bought it 2nd hand!) It's not something that we use an awful lot so we don't want to spend a fortune, but we do need one. There's one on offer at the moment made by Wolf (off a well-known tools website, but I'm not sure if I can mention them or not) - £25, 160mm, 1050w. We've never had anything of this make before & I was just wondering what people's experiences were. Thanks v much in advance for any replies.

I would say that if it is not going to see much use then it will probably be fine for you but I would always try before you buy if possible just so you feel comfortable with the weight , cutting action , fence , and sight line etc.

Your obviously talking about screwfix here ........ I reckon it's a good buy for £25 and it comes with a 2-year guarantee which as far as I know, Screwfix would just replace it with a new one if you had any problems with it.

Wolf was always a well known make for quality tools

My computer skills are slightly worse than my DIY skills, so no chance!

It is Screwfix & everything else we've had from them has been spot on so I think we're just going to go for it. Thanks for all yor replies!

Ive been heavy-Diying on and off for around 15 years now and IMHO you either hire the specific tool for the job or buy the budget ones and expect to throw them away regularly.Ive learned never to buy midrange Bosch or B+D etc.
The wolf is a rebadged Ferm as sold by Screwfix-I have one and its very good for the money.

On the subject of hiring and also Screwfix,my current project requires the use of a small Kango type rotary hammer.
The Hire Shop want £25 + VAT a day.
Screwfix have a Ferm rotary hammer for £30 plus an appropriate cutting tip.
Even my remedial-class mathematics could work out the better deal
Im on my second day with the Ferm now, so it has in effect, paid for itself.Highly effective it is too .
Tommorow I'll be actually saving money!
A three year guarantee is also aledged by the manufacturers.
Ive now ordered the 24v driver as well as its been reduced by £20.
