I know this will spark a good debate!

I am a qualified plumber and no exactly how to install a boiler competentley.

What im quering is can I legally install a boiler and do the water side of the boiler and flue etc but leave the gas pipework and get my gas safe friend in to do the gas side, commission the boiler and fill in the benchmark.

Thanks

This is a discussion you should be having with your gasfitter mate. If he's happy to put his name in the benchmark, then that's up to him.

Your friend is signing his name to all the work if i'm right,,, maybe I'm wrong.

I suppose it happens but do you know the regs and full install parameters.

You aren't allowed to hanf the boiler, touch the gas or flue.

Just for clarification op, what makes you a "qualified plumber". I ask since a quick browse at your posting history and profile seems to suggest that you are a "multiskilled tradesman" who has a bit of an occasionally limited repertoire of plumbing knowledge. Nowt wrong with that since we all have to start somewhere in our chosen profession. So are you CG6129, NVQ2 or 3?

Im NVQ level 3 and been working with my friend for a long time now fitting many boilers etc but do a lot of work on my own and thought itd be good to start promoting boilers amongst my work. Id love to do my gas foundation course and associated assessments just so expensive and to be honest I can get my friend to link the gas up fill in the bench mark and sign it off for £80 seems cheaper to do it that way to be honest.

Just wanted to know legally how it stands?

So you are not competent, and you are breaking the law.

Sorry - that is how it is, whether you like it or not. GS will not be too happy with your pal either if they find out.

Because you are not deemed competent. Do you know what you can and can't hang a boiler onto?

If you don't believe me, phone Gas Safe. Ask them about their view on RGI's signing off other people's work whilst your at it.

tommy, most on here are scaremongers, they will tell you that you that only they are competent to hang boilers co they paid £4000 for somebody to tell they can, Its called a traffic warden mentality, they like to parade about with gassafe polo shirts and fga analizers hangin out of their back pockets,
get your mate to check your work, if he's gassafe he won't put his name to it unless he's happy, you'll learn more from working with people, than from classrooms,
