Quick question on fire regs.- can't see anything in Approved Doc B.

Client has two large typical late-Victorian semis both currently in flats and being re-furbished. The party wall finishes at ceiling level to the 2nd floor and does not carry up to underside of roof (ie roof void in both houses completely open).

Client wants to separate them for prevention of fire spread. Builder doesn't want to hump concrete blocks up there, so would a stud partition with 'Fireline' each side to 30 mins do?

(Sound transmission Part E not applicable).

Thanks.

To get to 30 mins you need 12.5 SoundBloc or 15mm WallBoard each side.

A 12.5 layer of Fireline each side will give you 60mins on a 75mm stud.

Single layer of fireline will only give 30mins then the studs will burn, for 60mins needs to be double boarded both sides.
Gah! I just check me White Book again, you are right I misread it, its two layers each side that will give 60mins!

Bloody Building Control!

Strictly we would need 60 minutes as the top floor is > 5m above ground level.
But at the moment there's zero minutes, so client just wants somenthing to improve matters.
