How come I am able to run a 4.6kw instant water heater on a 10amp fuse in the fusebox?? I can't understand how this works, even when the heater is running for five minutes and has been used on and off for the past 10 days!?

Can you post us a picture? How old is it? Does it have a brand name on it? Are you sure it only takes 10A fuses or is it just that this is what is currently fitted? I have never seen a fusebox which only takes one size fuse.

I wonder if it is just the fuseholder?

When I was in the telecomms trade we used a lot of 10Amp racks, like LAN cabinets, with lots of pieces of equipment in, oddly, they have one 10-Amp MCB feeding a row of 10Amp cartridge fuseholders on the same rail... seems a bit odd but I suppose they rely on disconnection time to discrimiate.

I take it by the other thread this German fusebox is in Germany?

Yes it's in Germany, sorry I meant to say that as well.

I'm more curious as to what the pitfalls are from continuing to run this water heater through this fuse. Should I just leave it?

That's a great reference, thanks for that. I guess I had better see how I can change it to a 20amp fuse.
