halogen lights flickering, help ?

New to this forum. I fitted some undercabinet halogens that I purchased from homebase. The set up is as follows, main plug goes to a socket which is connected to a transformer and 3 halogen bulbs. I have extended the wriring of 2 of the bulbs and went to an electrical store for some special high current wiring. So I think all ok there.

I have had no problems with this set up for the first 3 months since fitting. However, just recently after these lights have been on for about an hour they start flickering. Has the transformer gone ?

Another strange thing is that a halogen bar in my bedroom has also started flickering. Not sure if these 2 problems are connected to each other or just coincidence.

I thinkthe two problems are probably a coincidence.

The first thing I would suggest is a loose joint somewhere, as if it is alright for an hour, then starts flickering it sounds like a joint is getting warm and starting to spark, causing the lights to flicker. It is unlikely that it is the transformer that is at fault, as these tend to either work at full brightness, and either go fully off or to half brightness but not flicker if there is a problem. Just go through the joints and check they are all tight and look for any signs of burning to the cable or connectors.

What did you use to connect the new wire to the under unit fittings?

Thanks for that. I will give it a check like you suggested. I used the lego type connectors and you may well be right that some connections may be a bit loose.
