Hi All, Newbie Here in midst of extension

This the the landing area and access to the small bathroom, one of the reasons we explained to the local authority we needed the extension as it was just too small and the window was a design fault by the builders which let very little light in. The design fault has been explained previously but in the following photo you will see how it was bodged when it was a new build.

So here is the other side of that wall



You can clearly see how large the window should have been but the position of the original pitched garaged roof ran straight through the middle of the window so they left the frame in place and had the small window inset into it.
 
So, window out and errrrr. thermalise blocks removed leaving the tiles and plasterboard in situ :)



We were able to fit the lintel without issue but the cleaning fairies had to come out before er' indoors got home from work


 
Meanwhile, the plumber attended to plumbing the sink and the electrician finally turned up and carried out 95% of the work I had been asking him to do for the last 5 weeks!

The spot lights in the rear extension were finally fitted
The bedroom and bathroom were powered up
and the bathroom plinth lights were fitted

I can say the bathroom is complete apart from a couple of cosmetic touches but you get the idea

And finally this week to get rid of some of the plasterboard that has been taking up space in the garage we boarded as much of the garage as can possibly be up to this point

The outside patio tiles turned up this week as I was short on a few but can't lay them in this heat, but will get that done as a priority when I next can as i'd like to finish the garden off so as not to have to keep walking in and out the rear extension with tools and dirty feet.



I need to touch up the rear extension walls, painting a touch of sanding etc, then that room is complete save for the electrical fitting the back lighting for the TV unit.



Next BIG job is to knock through completely and gut the existing bathroom and get the plumber to take out all the plumbing, Hopefully that will be done next time I'm back as hopefully i will have more time on my hands
 
Been somewhat busy of late and its been a while since I have had an update.

I have been mainly touching up and finishing bits and pieces but in between I have had to wait for decent & dry weather to complete laying the patio and grout it, which I am happy to say I have finally completed, just before the weather turned.

I also put new featheredge board up on one side to finish off the fence and new arris rails on the other side ready to put the fence up once i have finished the edging off around the patio.

I fixed sleepers to the brickwork at the end of the patio and another to create a step down. the gap was backfilled ready for artificial grass which will sit in the gap and the will finish off the rest of the garden with artificial grass of which I need 15m2 if anyone can recommend a brand?

Anyway, heres the patio.... the tiles are rated for outdoor use and are exactly the same as what is laid in the rear extension so it will give a 'bigger' area feel to it once the bifold doors are open in the good weather

 
I also decided to paint the returns in the extension as was unsure of the look/transition from the red to white, i think it looks better now though..

I'd also like opinions on what people think about the reveals around the velux, should I paint them red too???? or leave them white as they currently are???


Anyway. from the 2nd week of October, I'll be looking to finally knock through and rip out the existing bathroom, to get it boarded, and plastered so I can build a wardrobe in there for storage


Unsure what to do with the existing Bath, sink, pan, throw them or offer them free to collect as they are in decent condition and would be a shame to throw them away!
 
Right, update time.

Returned home from overseas and hopefully things arranged that will play out over the next few days otherwise it's going to be a pain trying to get around the upstairs...

So, my dad came over and we cracked on....

All that was on the other side of the tiles was plasterboard so this came down quite quickly



Next it was time to remove the toilet

 
Hopefully you can see from this angle how the new extension is accessed from the old bathroom and why I chose to leave it until the last moment to knock through....

We have started to take the floor up now so that we can take out the holes where the pipework came through and make good the floor.

I truthfully didn't think we would get the bathroom gutted in just a few hours and all that remains is for the plumber to come in and remove all the unnecessary plumbing in there so the room will be dry.

where the bath was I will build fitted storage/wardrobes as it was one thing that was lacking in our originally small 'starter home'

The plumber is not due to attend until Wednesday (its Monday afternoon as i update this), had i known we had got this done in a day, I would have booked him to come earlier, typical !!! so tomorrow no work as we really need all the pipework removing so we can finish removing the floor and replacing it before starting work on the walls...

Hopefully I'll have more updates and less time between them this time :)
