I need to build a stud wall in my house and can not decide which material would be best, Metal or Wooden?
The highest point is approx 3.4m going down to 2.4m and 4.3m long with a doorway.
It will not be load bearing and the one advantage of using metal work that I can see is it will be straight unlike most timber and lighter to work with.

Any advice from people who have used both and their personal preferences would be great.

Thanks

I've never worked out how a door and frame fits within a 50mm metal partition.

If you're going for a metal frame, then you'll need sound insulation that 25kg/m2, as opposed to 10Kg used for 100mm wooden stud wall. Any woodyard will let you check the wood for straightness, and by the time the plasterboard goes on and gets skimmed, you won't notice any slight twists. Obviously, if you go for a 50mm metal wall, then you'll need just over a 3" door frame, so you'll either need to run a 4" set down, or get the woodyard to knock one up for you once the frames up, and about to be plastered. But you could go for a 3x2 wood stud wall, and then use a 4" door frame.
