Can anybody tell me why...

I think Himmy came back because under Bobby D he declared that he could no longer be associated with such a place that allowed any racist comments and that mods allowed it to happen. He flounced off, only to rejoin under yet another name, thinking we'd all be fooled and he'd save face

I honestly think there should be a setting when you join that doesn't allow more than one username on the same IP address. Not fool-proof but may stop some of it.

I’m thinking of @Boogerman. Joined a week ago, 83 posts so far, not one DIY related. On a DIY forum? Why?
Ah, Himmy - true to form.

As to why... that's the million dollar question. How do you get sense out of a crazy man?

Being a political troll like being any sort of troll I think is an addiction for some people. You will find that person you mentioned is probably a member of a lot of random forums where the core subject has nothing to do with them being there other than to spread trollness.

Forums are a platform where people's voices can be heard, however if they got on a political forum they would be out gunned. Imo. DIY forums are a soft target to hammer a view to the largely uninterested like me. Jmo
To answer. Chemical fixing is you best bet or thunder blot. :)

..people sign up to a DIY forum solely to make political posts? Why? What led them here in the first place? Perhaps they are already here and need an anonymous alter-ego?
Other forums don`t allow it and posts are quickly removed, suspect trolls are closely watched and advised to go elsewhere if they persist yet here it would seem that anything is allowed.

Himmie seems ok to me just a tad obsessed with racism, or it's meaning.

What's so bad about that?

It's not spreading division like the immigrant haters.

Just my point of view of course...

Some of us came here for DIY advice, and have made over the years comments in return regarding relevant experiences/mistakes.
Unfortunately the search facility doesn't have the facility to go back very far (or is selective), and thus certain forum members can make mistakes in questioning a particular person's contributions.

But some may have discovered that in GD there appeared/appears to be some who have rather objectional political views, and some have a belief in a 'right to reply' to counter such ignorant views lest they be allowed to fester.
It appears that there is a current policy of trying to suppress those counter arguments because they appear to cause embarrassment to certain members.

Some of us have kept the same username for many years, whilst some are recent members of only a few years/months/days standing. Why did they choose to join?

Over the years there have been idiots spouting a load of b ollox. softus and joe90 come to mind from the past. But then that would have been before your relatively brief time here mottie, wouldn't it?

Of course usernames come and go and some appear to have a 'faked history'.

One wonders if those running this site are 'occasionally' taking the p iss

I don't mind Himmy's stance on racism, in fact I agree with it - within reason (he has a habit of seeing racism when it's not even there). But his inability to read, understand the written word (and his ability to get it wrong, over and over), his failure to address points if it means he's wrong and his grasping at every single opportunity to put people down - rather than discuss, makes Himmy a royal pain in the backside.

Can anyone tell me why people sign up to a DIY forum, then exploit it to make political arguments? Why? What led them to insist on their political viewpoint? Why do some of them spout hatred and division on a DIY forum?

But while they do, do you object to having your viewpoints, your arguments, your attitudes questioned?
Obviously some do object to having their opinions questioned.
