Yes. I requested both (gas and leccy) to be fitted. All done and have been in months. Zero fuss. No dramas. Much better than faffing around reading meters etc. Backwards luddites will say differently.
I like my current system of reading meters - makes it harder for the supplier to unexpectedly increase your monthly DD.
Had a smart meter in my previous house and seemed totally pointless really. Besides, another SIM card communicating via phone networks 24/7 just uses more energy, which is wasteful.
The only way smart meters help save money is by reminding you that you are using electricity. But you don't need a smart meter for that really. When I had one, I went around the house turning things off until the warning light went from red to amber to green. The last thing that was switched off was the smart meter.
