Old TV 42" new TV 55" both cheap Black Friday deals, new one Sharp Aquos, three HDMI leads, satellite lead, terrestrial aerial lead, and connects to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It says mini AV, 1764710646129.pngI assume I need some special cable? I have a composite video/audio cable to SCART, but not what looks like a jack plug to composite video/audio cable, not 100% sure what I will need? I have a DVD/CD player with surround sound, with SCART I am not sure, if worth getting it connected?

I also have a Blu-ray/DVD player, which uses HDMI and failed to get it to connect. Not a clue why? The Sky box connects OK, but the volume button on the Sky remote does not work. And switching on Sky box does not auto start TV.

It has Freely 1764711552189.pngand not sure if watching terrestrial or Wi-Fi TV, up to now Freeserve from Moel-y-Parc has been rubbish, with very few programs, we now seem to have more than old TV, so may be this Freely?

The satellite seems reasonable with 550 channels, but this includes multi-BBC1 etc. Cost a fortune once the new Ikea units, and wall bracket is included, but at moment have the boxes, but these have not connected to TV except for the Sky box, and we have no surround sound. So it is a question of am I doing something wrong, or do I need new boxes?

Turn your router off, to find out which.

You can get scarrt, to hdmi adaptors, but quality is not good - best to look to replacement, if you must have.

I've just wasted 10 minutes checking four different Sharp 55" Freely TVs for the AV input. The models are 55HJ4225K, 55HJ4125K, 55HJ4325K, and 55HJ4725K. All the specs say the same thing. "Video/Audio input (3 x RCA) - Yes" None say it's a minijack.

I'm not being funny, but you're wasting everyone's time if you not going to bother writing the model number in your post. You've been a member of this forum for long enough to know how it works. If someone asked a radio ham question, but never bothered to filling in what gear and antenna they were using, you'd be equally frustrated. Come on. Play the game. Give us your bloody model number if you want help on this stuff.

The alternative view is to say ditch the non-HDMI DVD player. Honestly, at this point in the game, that's the correct answer. SCART had the distinct advantage of carrying RGB video. That was a really clean signal. When we lost SCART as a regular input on TVs we also lost a way to carry analogue RGB. The AV lead (analogue composite video) or a video to HDMI convertor lead - which amounts to the same - is a very poor substitute. Switching to a Blu-ray player (they play DVDs just fine) provides the digital version of RGB.

Bluetooth. It says mini AV, View attachment 401080I assume I need some special cable? Time to ditch that psuedo surround sound effect caused by using SCART. ;)

You need a 3x RCA cable that plugs into the back of the DVD player. On the other end, you'll need a female RCA to mini AV (3.5mm) adapter. Then, the mini AV end (3.5mm) will connect to the back of the TV.

If you already have a 3x RCA to RCA cable, then all you need is the female RCA to mini AV (3.5mm) adapter, and it will allow you to connect the DVD player (via RCA) to the TV (via mini AV).
I also have a Blu-ray/DVD player, which uses HDMI and failed to get it to connect. Not a clue why? The Sky box connects OK,
You might need to reset the display settings on the DVD player. Sometimes, when a device is connected to a different type of port, it needs resetting to adjust the signal for the new connection
but the volume button on the Sky remote does not work. And switching on Sky box does not auto start TV.
It needs programming to the TV. If you remove the back cover of the Sky remote, there should be steps that guide you how to do it.

Sorry, box was not to hand, 1764796413397.png I looked for details on the instructions, and they were not shown. I am slowly masking all the useless channels on free to air, but as yet failed to get Blu-ray player to work. And the Sky remote is not controlling volume, and can't remember how it is done.1764796833881.png I am sure I will find it. Don't bother looking for me.

Must say I found your original post baffling with spurious reference to things not working which you don’t mention having ? Don’t see what the purpose is of mentioning the dimensions of you old tv , how is that relevant ?

Remote now working Sky and TV, so that bit sorted. The satellite slowly removing the encrypted and god and sex channels, so becoming useable. But never really thought that changing a TV set would involve so much, was the extra few inches worth it? I was finding it hard to read the guide on the TV and wife thought it would be better to have a larger TV rather than better glasses.

Then left to me to set it all up, and it seems VCR, CD, DVD, Blueray, have all failed to connect, but I have not watched a tape or disc in years, so not really sure worth the effort getting them working again, there are a few odd tapes, like the one showing building of Mount Pleasant airport on the Falklands I would like to be able to see again, but very few, and we could use other TV's in the house, so not a big problem.

Wife would like better sound, but again we have not played a CD in years, basic lazy, and hey google play XYZ is so easy, and only specials which were imported from USA excreta can't be played, and we have a USB record player so can be played, but not using large speakers, and not sure the large speakers are really that much better, but wife seems to think they do.
