    Tanking

I sent a sample to the manufacturer and got this reply:- 'The back of the sample looks very dusty which has obviously affected the adhesion. This could be for one of 2 reasons: The primer has been applied to a dusty surface thus preventing it from penetrating the surface, or the wall is...

    Tanking

Hi. I wondered if anyone's had this issue with tanking before? After applying a certain tanking kit featured on a youtube ultimate handyman video, I peeled off the masking tape I'd put along the edge of the bath...to find in places the tanking membrane peeled off the wall too (see below). I...

    connector strips

Hi. I've tiled my kitchen, and unfortunately can't refit the cooker socket as there's not enough slack in the cable to reach the socket properly! Can I simply get some 6mm2 twin and earth and use connector strip inside the knockout box to extend by 10-15cm and make it possible to refit it? If...

    Tiles dispute

I posted about the marks earlier:- http://www.diynot.com/forums/tiling/marks-on-tiles.407219/ Tried Grimex (dilute and neat), vinegar, bleach, bicarbonate of soda in water and a couple of other pH cleaners in shops. Nothing makes a difference.

    Tiles dispute

Hi. I recently tiled my kitchen using some Hi gloss black tiles. Being high gloss black, they came with protective chalk/wax lines on them (so when they're packed together in a box they don't get scratched I presume). Now these chalk lines are meant to wash off with water, which they do, but...

Tiling - simple question for pro tilers

Hi. A very simple question for all you Pro Tilers out there. At what stage in the tiling process would you normally remove the protective wax/chalk type material that comes on some wall tiles? Also, I'd be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who's done a City & Guilds tiling course...

    marks on tiles

Nobody? Further info - the tiles when they arrived were wet/damp (I'm guessing from being stored outside). I got a note from the supplier saying they had spotted this, but it shouldn't be a problem. Could rain have etched the tiles after being trapped by the chalk/transit wax? T

    marks on tiles

yep, definitely on the tiles. I'm wondering if the protective chalk (if that's what is it) has etched them somehow

    marks on tiles

Hi. I've just finished installing a load of black gloss kitchen tiles. The tiles were 20x10cm, with 4 lines of protective chalk down them. Where the chalk lines were, once wiped off with warm water, are visible marks that don't seem to come off with anything. I've attached a couple of photo's to...

best/usual way to tile window sill?

Hi. I have two options to tile my window ledge, shown in the pics below - either I extend the brick pattern, or lay the tiles perpendicular to the window. Is there a "normal" way to do it? I'll have a piece of chrome trim in front. Thanks

Does this need certifying and why?

Erm, he did know they could be used and he didn't tell me to twist conductors together - I never said that... Out of curiousity, what are you supposed to do if you don't twist them and don't use Wago's and have say 3 to go in somewhere? I know I'd rather have ones solidly twisted together...

Does this need certifying and why?

I guess I am literally 5 minutes around the corner from him, he knows where I live and he tries not to work weekends...but still very generous. I stuck new batteries in his Megger as he refused to take any cash!

Does this need certifying and why?

I reckon the ring length is more like 30m or so kinda tricky to guesstimate...I'm assuming you're talking about the length of one set of conductors alone. If it makes any difference it is 2.5mm cable but only 1mm cpc not 1.5mm.

Does this need certifying and why?

sounds like my Zs values were behaving as expected.....great  I recorded PFC values as I went round doing the Zs ones too. They did the reverse and got smaller the further from the consumer unit I got....closest socket gave 0.85kA/850Amps, furthest one 0.37kA/370 Amps. Are these values...

Does this need certifying and why?

End to end measurements were:- N-N 0.35 Ohms L-L 0.34 Ohms E-E 0.91 Ohms which fits with the old 2.5mm T+E with 1mm CPC, so ratio of 1:2.5. Definitely no broken ring. I now suspect I hadn't auto-nulled the leads, at least for the kitchen one. Because of the distance to the meter box...

Does this need certifying and why?

Thanks for the replies. I took the previous version of the minor works down as I realised a few things were wrong. The hawk eyed among you obviously spotted it too quickly! I wonder if anyone can please identify the size of the green/yellow bonding cable (pics show this at the meter box and the...

Does this need certifying and why?

Hi. I had a local electrician come take a look - he thought my work looked like it met regs, but because it had a lot of joins (I used Wago's instead of twisting cables etc) he wasn't happy to certify it in case NICEIC picked my job later to make him break it down. He did however be incredibly...

Does this need certifying and why?

Hi. Thanks for replies! The reply I got from LABC on querying my interpretation of the changes to part P was:- I agree with the interpretation of the current requirements of the building regulations as set out in the "changes to Part P" leaflet that you have provided. Therefore, provided...

Does this need certifying and why?

...so you are saying there's a legal requirement to get non-notifiable work certificated? I own the property, it's for my own use etc. If it does need certifying, can I just get any competent electrician (they wouldn't even need part P presumably as it's non notifiable work) to issue a minor...
