Alternative to feather finishing ply before laying Vinyl

Hi, I am putting in a new flooring in my bathroom. I have nailed down 6mm ply and there are some gaps between a few of the boards. I have read that I should fill these gaps with a feather finish compound before laying my vinyl flooring. Is this correct or will it not make much difference...

Laying Lino in a bathroom - what to lay on

Cheers for that. I have gone for 6mm WBP ply as that seems to be the wood of choice. I noticed people said hardboard needs treating with water before laying, is it the same with Ply and is there any thing I should know before cutting it up and nailing it down?

How easy is it to cut 6mm WBP plywood without a circular saw

I am just about to lay WBP 6mm thick plywood onto my bathroom floor before sticking lino ontop. However, all web sites refer to cutting it with a circular saw. As I don#t have one, how easy is it to cut manually with a normal saw and is there a specific type of saw I should be using? Also...

Laying Lino in a bathroom - what to lay on

Cheers for that. I meant vinyl i.e. the stuff you buy from carpet world that comes rolled up like a carpet. Will 3mm plywood do or should it be 6mm?

Laying Lino in a bathroom - what to lay on

I know there have been a few topics but just want to get this right before I buy any materials: Do I lay plywood or hardboard down? All DIY manuals say 6mm hardboard, but have seen a few people say plywood. Plywood is alot more expensive. Will chipboard or mdf also work? How thick, the...

Hi, I have purchased the following bath screen and am about to attach it to the wall but the screws and wall plugs look a little bit puny so was just wondering on your thoughts...

Attaching a shower screen to a tiled wall - is it to heavy?

Hi, I am about to buy and attach a shower screen to the side of the bath. This will be directly screwed onto the following surface: ceramic tiles (8mm thick) attached to 12.5mm chipboard (tanked) which are in turn attached to battons. Quick question, as shower screens are quite heavy, will...

how to fix the bath feet to the floor

I have managed to screw a couple of the bath feet to the floor, however I have no idea about how to get the ones that are nearest the wall attached down. I can reach them (uncomfortably with an outstretched arm) but obviously have no room to push down and screw in the screws. Is there some...

Do I need to seal around a washbasin where it meets the wall

Not sure if this is under the right topic, but do I need to seal around the washbasin where it meets the wall ie behind the taps. I have two DIY books that don't mention it and am thinking that the level of splashing should be minimum so not sure if it is needed?

How do I remove dried on Bal grout from tiles

In a very stupid move, having grouted the ceramic tiles in my bathroom, I didn't remove the excess grout before it had dried. My tiles are now all covered in a thin to middling layer of dried on grout that is proving a git to move. Is there a quick and/ or easy way to remove it. At the mo...

Tiling a corner, is plastic trim worth using

I am tiling my bathroom and currently tiling the wall that the shower (from the bath/shower mixer)is on, see diagram below. I was wondering how is it best to tackle the corner marked with the arrow, I am assuming some plastic trim? I have also seen mention of mitring the two tiles, but I...

How do I connect a 15mm copper pipe to a 22 mm tap

Am I being really stupid. Are all tap connections the same diameter and therefore when screwfix flexible hose dimensions are 22mm x 3/4 x 300 x 13mm. The 22mm is referring to the end that connects to the pipe and not the tap?

How do I connect a 15mm copper pipe to a 22 mm tap

That is what I did. I bought this one: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/15015/Plumbing/Flexible-Hoses/Flexible-Tap-Connector-22mm-x-x-300mm The only trouble being one end fits the tap but the other is way to big to fit the compression joint of a 15mm isolation valve.

How do I connect a 15mm copper pipe to a 22 mm tap

I know it is a stupid question, but here goes. I have a 15 mm copper pipe that I have attached an isolation valve to. I now want to connect this to my tap, using a flexible hose. Two questions: Can I connect the hose straight on to the end of the isolation valve's compression joint...

    Tanking with BAL WP1

Hi, I am just about to tank and have the BAL WP1 shower kit. It says I should put the tape into corners, junctions cracks etc but one question: I have fixed plasterboard to the wall using galvanised plaster board screws. Do I need to cover each head with a bit of tape (as you could...

How long can I leave BAL WP1 on the walls for before tiling

I am just about to tank my bathroom with BAL WP1. It says once applied, leave for 24hrs to dry. However, is there an upper limit on how long I can leave it before applying tiles as I haven't bought any yet so is going to be a week or two before I get round to tiling.

Gap between plasterboards, what do I do as am about to tank

I am not sure what you mean by plumb? The walls are flat, it is just that I cocked up big style when fixing the plasterboard to the wall as this was my first time and I did it on my own. (I have been learning a lot from my mistakes) Worst case I can take out the screws and refix the...
