Blocked drain - should this grate come off?

The pictured drain gets blocked periodically - everything drains into it - shower, bath, all sinks, dishwasher and washing machine so every so often I need to clear bits of hair and food out of it (I realise it could do with a good repoint!). Today it's really blocked - I've ladled all the...

    Tightening old radiator valve

Arrr getting a plumber within a month is apparently a challenge where I live! I obviously can't replace the whole part as it's soldered in place and I'm happy to drain the system myself but my concern is that if I get the spindle (if that's the correct name) out, it might be too rounded to...

    Tightening old radiator valve

It was behind a cover I'd never taken off!

    Tightening old radiator valve

Thanks for all that info. Looks soldered to me so I assume it's either trying a new washer or call in a plumber?

So no point at all trying to tighten?

    Tightening old radiator valve

This radiator valve is leaking, I suspect since the plumber drained the radiator as part of a boiler install a couple of weeks ago, the nut is rounded and it's hard to tell if it is (was) square before and I have tried with an adjustable spanner but no joy and don't want to round further -...

    Pointing gaps in patio

Tired of weeding patio and currently suffering from a back injury so looking to do a final weed and then fill in the gaps with 'something', but not sure what product to use. I've found pour in mixes, dry mixes to hose down afterwards - for each of these there's branded products but these can...

Extra long sealant guns sound great but anyone ever used one?

No, but fairly sure I could cover a gap in a roof tile. Would it be helpful to silicone my bath, nope. I could be wrong but in this specific situation where I'm not trying to avoid paying a roofer, but avoiding someone climbing on an old roof I'm trying to squeeze a couple more years out of... I...

Extra long sealant guns sound great but anyone ever used one?

I'm assuming they take the standard ones i.e. the plunger is long so the standard sized tube fits in the end, although I could be wrong. That fits with pictures of ones I've seen.

Extra long sealant guns sound great but anyone ever used one?

While I admire your innovation It's a steep pitched roof so I don't think so acrypol would be viscous enough. Thinking more along the lines of...

Extra long sealant guns sound great but anyone ever used one?

Take your point if you're on a commercial build with a scaffold around, but as a DIY'er ... I have an old torched roof and some of the tiles e.g. the side and top rows are cemented - if they crack a roofer has previously told me that replacing them can end up causing more damage to other tiles...

Extra long sealant guns sound great but anyone ever used one?

I was looking to see if there was such a thing and came across a website: https://longreachsealantguns.co.uk/ But not currently available. In the absence of being able to find a roofer willing to replace a single tile this would be incredibly useful! UPDATE: I heard back from the company -...

Apparently my shed wasn't rough sawn

Ahh thanks both - this makes sense. I just looked at the product and it is described as 'treatment'. So I think I need to look at an oil based paint. I actually looked at a coloured bitumen paint but with the drying time, the fact they stay tacky for weeks and that they seem to smell for ages...

Apparently my shed wasn't rough sawn

Just built a playhouse from a kit for my toddler. Looks great and I painted it (very carefully I may add) with two colours of shed and fence paint. It was for rough sawn wood as that's what I thought I had, however... The paint looks ok in most places but if you run it lightly with a damp cloth...

    Filling big chip/crack

I, ahem, dropped a big mug down the stairs and it has made a real mess of one of the tiles. This is one of a couple of accidents and I'm just wondering if there's a product to use that will help me to make a half-decent job of filling it in. I'm far from a perfectionist and it couldn't really...

'Servicing' old windows - very drafty!

LOL - that's like when I tell my toddler that it's not the ghosts he should be scared of - it's the burglars ;)

'Servicing' old windows - very drafty!

It seems to be the week for doors going wrong but I'm also thinking about my windows at the moment. I've got very old upvc windows and they're very VERY drafty. I sometimes think I must have left the one next to our bed open but...no, it's just the wind whistling through it somehow. Most of...
