    Chipboard with tile over?

Hi All, I have a floor which is 22mm tongue and groove chipboard that then becomes 22mm tongue and groove floorboard. A bit of a redesign and opening up the house means this is going to be a kitchen and I want to tile. Can I get away with putting something like 9mm ply over the whole area...

Hot water discharge from unvented system.

HI All, Quick question. Looking at getting an unvented system fitted and one of the heating engineers that came to give quotes was saying that I may have problems with the discharge arrangement as it needs to go outside and be visible. Difficult to explain but the location of the boiler...

    LED questions?

Ta PBoD after your last I decided I would hold fire - don't want to fork out that sort of money and get wrong ones - though did seem a bargain - went for £120 in end plus £20 tax and then £20 buyers premium and approx £10 deliver £170 in all for approx 20 of them. But as you say only 3 * 1...

    LED questions?

Thanks PBoD. Would you usually fit these in preference to GU10's and think they are worth the extra money? I guess it depends on your customer but what would you do if it was your house I guess I am asking? In your experience is the light 'good' comparable/better than halogens and the...

Are Junction Boxes allowed on lighting circuits under regs

Thanks very much all fo ll of the responses. The loop in at the switches seems the way to go to me and sensible. Agree with all that is said abut JB (even maintenance free), so will avoid and ask for looped in at switches to give me the flexibility in the future. MOre then happy to sink in...

    LED questions?

Hi All, I am looking at getting some recessed downlights for part of my kitchen. Understand about fire rated etc. I never knew it was so complicated though. There seem to be integrated LED's and then GU10's. The integrated ones say LED's can not be replaced and generally areg more...

Are Junction Boxes allowed on lighting circuits under regs

Hello, Just looking at designing the lighting for my extension. I believe I was right in saying that Junction boxes (olds style) aren't really allowed any more? Is that correct? If that is so doesn't it then become quite crowded in a loop in system i.e. power from last light, power to...

    Workshop - seperate ring?

Thanks PrenticeBoyofDerry. I will look into the seperate garage CU - sounds like a sensible idea, and yes understand regarding the lighting being on a seperate RCB to the sockets for safety reasons. I was looking at mechanical protection in the workshop 20mm galvanized but trying to think...

    Workshop - seperate ring?

Just checked ELI on the rings. Downstairs ring 0.44, upstairs 0.49, kitchen 0.48, upstairs lights 0.85, downstairs lights 0.75. So I guess then this means I have the choice. Just thinking would it be better to isolate the workshop (and it doesn't have an adjoining door - have to go...

    Workshop - seperate ring?

Thanks ericmark. The existing circuits are all RCD protected yes. 2 RCD's on the board, circuits split between. Seperate way for shower and fire alarms. Kitchen on seperate ring. As for loading will want more than a radial I think. Will be runninng power tools and the like, wife may...

Quick question about back boxes and running cables

Many thanks Riveralt. And yes aware of the safe zones thanks. Wont be cabling myself anyway but the position of the boxes has taken into account where the spark can run the cable from beneath the floor vertically to the socket, switch etc. Much obliged.
