Using SWA & NYY-J cable outdoors

hi, I'm planning outdoor lighting scheme using Swa cable to suitable junction box, then I was considering using nyy-j cable to the light units - 1 about 1/2 metre away thru brickwork and another about 4 metres away with the cable under soil. Any advice if this is ok? Nyy-j cable is perfectly...

    Wiring a brick light

It may be connected to a lighting circuit later but for now the socket is ok, especially as I might want to use a timer. What's the issue about a cable going through a wall?

    Wiring a brick light

Yes swa it will have to be. I was intending to terminate the swa at a junction box then run flex from there to a plug/socket. Thanks

    Wiring a brick light

I am planning to connect the cable inside the house/garage via a 3 pin plug rather than permanent connection - does this make a difference as to what cable type I have to use outdoors? for example, can I use SY cable or even rubberised flex? or has it always got to be SWA? Thanks

    Wiring a brick light

Hi 333, many thanks for that quick reply. Good suggestion too. I haven't looked properly yet for the unit but I gather from forums not many can take a gland fitting, but we'll see. Also, I may want to add another lamp nearby at the same time so maybe a junction box would be best as I could...

    Wiring a brick light

I'm planning to install a brick light in a yet to be built front garden wall, which will be double thickness. Im planning to use swa cable from the house to a suitable IP rated junction box, fixed to the inner wall (i.e. soil side) then suitable rubber flex or flat t&e from the JB through the...

Texecom odyseey X3 backlight not working

Ok thanks for that.... I'll double check connection and check supply voltage, though the sounder and strobe do function correctly on test and the led's are pulsing normally.

Texecom odyseey X3 backlight not working

Yes tamper is wired as per instructions. May try wiring one unit at a time, but I'm guessing it's the LC setting, easier to try that first anyway. If it works, does anyone know if 2 backlit units will pull too much current? I've noticed as well that there are no fuses fitted on the panel pcb...

Texecom odyseey X3 backlight not working

hi, just installed a texecom veritas excel system with 2 odyseey x-be external sounders and x3 covers. All working ok except the backlight on the rear unit not working. I set this unit to LC mode as advised by texecom support, to lessen the current draw on the system with 2 sounders. Anyone...

    Texecom odyssey X cable entry

Hi Deryck Yes you're correct, I tried Texecom's advice and sure enough on close examination I can see the small cuts in the cover to grip each core - not seen that before. Many thanks

    Texecom odyssey X cable entry

Thanks Deryck, accessing the PCB is no problem, its getting the wiring through the clear plastic that's the problem. However, Texecom have advised that the wiring cores have to be passed through the small cuts that are present in the clear plastic PCB cover, so I'll give that a try later today...

    Texecom odyssey X cable entry

Hi, just purchased 2 new texecom odyssey X-be units, but I cannot work out how the cable is inserted through to the pcb to connect it! Obviously, it enters through the back of the moulding through the triangular opening but I cannot see how it then enters through the clear plastic moulding that...

RCD req for bathroom lights, fan and shaver?

Many thanks prenticeboy & John - very helpful. Yes I have only replaced items, in fact I took one circuit out - a mirror light that was redundant. All wiring is existing, just tidied up with an extra junction box; the only 'new' wiring is a short run of 3 core & earth to the extractor fan -...

RCD req for bathroom lights, fan and shaver?

Im upgrading a bathroom that had 3 recessed downlights, shaver socket and extractor fan, all fed from lighting supply. No rcd device present. Ive replaced all 3 lights, shaver skt and fan and added a double pole fused isolator to isolate everything in the bathroom if needed. 2 lights are in...

One rad cooler than the rest after replacing - balance issue?

hi, recently moved to a house with Worcester green star 30cdi combi, all (8) rads were hot & heating the house fine; took one upstairs rad off for decorating, (noted turns on LS valve, & closed trv) refitted, topped up boiler, refilled rad and set LS valve back where it was, bled rad, all ok and...

worcester greenstar 30cdi pressure gauge staying low

Recently moved to a house with a greenstar 30cdi combi, CH & DHW appear to be working fine but the pressure gauge is constantly just below green. I have used used the filling method - white key etc - to get more water in but the gauge does not respond when filling, or even after boiler is...

Refilling a rad after decorating but pressure already low

Hi Pete, completely different subject - I will be refitting bathroom soon and will include a shower fed from the bath mixer tap (not sure what style or type yet) do you know if my system will provide enough hot water pressure? Bosch Worcester green star 30cdi combi, located in garage; 3 bed...

Refilling a rad after decorating but pressure already low

Thanks Pete Topped pressure up a little before I started, though couldn't get the gauge to move off the red, but decided I'd put enough in for time being. I opened trv first then lock shield straight after. Bled out ok then started boiler, few gurgles during start up phase which lasts for about...

Refilling a rad after decorating but pressure already low

Hi Pete many thanks for that advice - I've done this a few times but never on a combi/sealed system. I saw this advice below in an old post - is it still valid would you say? In particular, No 3 - do I only open the TRV to fill, then open the lockshield when rad is full, as per the guide below...

Refilling a rad after decorating but pressure already low

Hi, I've removed a rad for decorating a week ago and now refitting. Prior to draining and removing it, the system pressure gauge was just below green, midway between the lower two red segments. I understand how to refill and bleed the air and that I will need to top up the pressure afterwards...
