British Gas engineer working "on the side" - cover

Which is the bottom line of what I've been trying to explain to the relative. He's convinced he can get someone else in at some point to sign the work off if need be but thats yet another discussion lmao

British Gas engineer working "on the side" - cover

Sorry if this has been discussed to death before but here is the scenario: One of my relatives has had their sh*tisf***ed boiler spring a leak - they've had nothing but trouble with it. They have a contract with British Gas to keep it going but have had enough of it breaking down on them...

Best solution for this problem ? Not a lot of space ...

Oh forgot to say ... The tiles going on will probaby be the largest, heaviest, expensive, most out of square difficult to work with ones the wife can find

Best solution for this problem ? Not a lot of space ...

We've got to totally rip out and replace everything in our en-suite. The house is only 16 years old but everything was done to such a shoddy standard its falling apart. We've got a 760mm by 760mm corner shower at the moment. The edge of the shower enclosure is within 10mm of the edge of the...

Should I seal this plastic strip to stop draught?

Sounds and looks to me like its the back edge of the cill. If the installer hasn't put a bead of silicon on the back edge before fitting the window then you will get a bit of a draught coming under the window. My installer didn't put any silicone on the back of mine but they are a reasonably...

Fitting a new uPVC door - any advice?

We've just had 2 new composite doors supplied for just under a grand. Fitting on the first door took a day and on the second door took half a day. So ...... around £500 for a half decent composite door (I got mine from Eurocell) and I paid a labourer (ex window fitter) £90 a day for...

    Pilkington K vs Glavabel Low-E - U values ?

The U value between gas filled and air filled only seems to be around 0.2 difference so I'm not too worried about that. Frames are standard FS70 Veka profile so nothing too out of the normal there either. As long as there isn't a major difference then I'm not fussed :)

    Pilkington K vs Glavabel Low-E - U values ?

To save me wasting any more of my Friday night on Google ...... We've got some windows ordered and they have all been specified with Low-E glass. The manufacturer said they were PK equivalent and after a little more coaxing said they used Glavabel Low-e glass. Now the Glavabel site is a...

    DIY window fitting and FENSA

I called Wellingborough Planning two weeks ago to ask about the fee and it was £75 including VAT for approving windows and doors.

    Lowline gaskets or not ?

We've been shopping around for a supply only window supplier and have had conflicting advice over lowline window gaskets. Some people seem to think they are the best thing since sliced bread, others say they are detrimental to the window seal and the "normal" seals are better. The wife...

    potterton prima f40 fault

For reference, my Prima F50 had the same thing. It was cycling to fire but cutting out before it actually lit the burner. It could take up to 40 attempts then would light. Some days it was better than others. I stripped down the PCB and found 3 dried out capacitors. Total cost of repair...

HELP - 3million gallons of water gone through my watermeter!

I know this is a really old post (well a year old !) but I remember reading it last year and it came up on a search earlier when I posted about my water meter fittings. Just curious as to the outcome .........

What type of fitting to use for this watermeter ?

Its actually going in a steel box mounted on a wall. Its to measure a preset quantity of fluid (1000 litres at a time) I picked up the doodah from Screwfix earlier and its got a nice flat machined face inside (15mm to 3/4" BSP) which looks like it will take a rubber washer from a washing...

What type of fitting to use for this watermeter ?

Fantastic - thanks guys - much appreciated :)

What type of fitting to use for this watermeter ?

As above - tap connector doesn't fit but the fitting I've got (well I've spotted on Screwfix) looks just like the one you've linked to (but straight and 15mm to 3/4" BSPP) So I'm correct in thinking I use one of those and a load of PTFE ? Cheers for the quick reply by the way :D

What type of fitting to use for this watermeter ?

I've bought a watermeter for a project but I'm having trouble trying to find fittings for it. Its a 3/4" BSPP connector at each end. Tap connectors are the right thread but won't fit due to the inner diameter of the water meter inlet. Is this a case of using something like this with a...

22mm compression sealing problem - advice please

I work in the manufacturing industry myself (I run an electronics business) and come across all kinds of oddities from suppliers. I've had "fake" chinese components supplied that look identical to the original but fail when you try and run them at spec and whole batches of faulty components with...

22mm compression sealing problem - advice please

Hindsight is a wonderful thing  To be honest with you, I normally make sure everything to be soldered and fitted is spotlessly clean, no pits in the pipework etc but this time (I think its to do with a kid with ADHD running around in the background), I assumed it would be ok. On the...

22mm compression sealing problem - advice please

Fitted something on the heating system today with a couple of tails supplied by the manufacturer. Tails supplied were 22mm copper pipes with compression fitting/olive. Did the usual "hand tight + half a turn", started filling up thermal store and added flushing chemicals then noticed the...
