Hi I want to construct the above type thing to cover the whole wall of my sons' bedroom, what would be the best material MDF, ply or what? I have the idea of having two wardrobes, one either end and between them a series of shelves with partitions across the wall to store toys books etc.

How? Can I just skim straight onto old skim or do I need to give it a key first like PVA or rough it up?

Do I need to do a PVA coat on old brick work before I apply the hardwall? It's over a hundred years old and in places and has eaten up masonry bits. What's best policy on applying skim coats? Let the hardwall set for an hour or so and then apply multi-finish without a coat of PVA or let it go...

Opinions please on tile paint? My bathroom needs retiling but we want to paint the the tiles before we commit budget to a new bathroom. Has anybody used tile paint? Which brand would be best Crown trade or other? Cheers all

Rereading your advice you show off with scratch coat/ cement render well that's what I want as the wall has that on it now, all be it very old, how do I go about it? Is it the 5:1:1 I've seen posted? And why showing off?

Found out that a long handle scraper works a treat, the sharp blade cuts right in and under. The reason I'm removing it is because bonding plaster is hydrophilic and draws water through the brickwork which is not a problem if the bonding plaster is a fair way above ground level.

I need to re-render patches of exposed brick work and then re-plaster an internal party wall (18msq) to a standard suitable for papering. I am going to do the job myself because the quotes I have had so far are just out of my price range, my kids need food and I need beer. I've never done...

Right at the risk of sounding stupid and having the proverbial extracted... Can you use grout instead of silicone sealant around upvc windows because the sealant always perishes after a time and comes loose? What do you reckon? Cheers all
